Jury updated on ambulance service, long range water planning

Frank Davis updated the members of the Sabine Parish Police Jury on issues concerning the ambulance service district and the long-range water planning committee at its most recent meeting last week. Davis advised the jury members
the district was receiving good service from the Zwolle ambulance service since MedExpress moved one ambulance from Many to Zwolle and service seemed to be improved for the Many side as well.

Poster contest opens for 150th Battle of Pleasant Hill

As part of the 150th an-niversary celebration of the Battle of Pleasant Hill, the committee will be sponsoring a poster contest. The artwork produced by the winning artist will be used on posters and t-shirts, which will be on sale at the April 4-6 celebration.

Reed to fight for first MMA title on March 2

CONVERSE – A couple of years ago, Dexter Reed was sit-ting in the crowd at the Munici-pal Auditorium in Shreveport watching a Mixed Martial Arts event.For the most part, most of the action was on the ground, featur-ing very little striking. He quickly became bored watching the fights and voiced his opinion about the fights being on the ground.

Jacobs expected to enter NFL Draft

Kings Chapel hosting annual MLK March

The 19th Annual Martin Luther King March and Celebration has been set for 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, and is being hosted by Kings Chapel AMEC. The program will be held at New Jerusalem Baptist Church at 11 a.m., with the march beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and East Alabama in Many.

Investigation underway in Family Dollar armed robbery

Detective JoAnn Carter of Many Police Dept. is currently investigating an armed robbery, which took place in the Many 
City Limits at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4. Carter has a suspect in jail, but he has not been charged, she said early Monday, Jan. 5.

Procell case named year’s top story

The top story of 2013 involved the kidnapping, death and areawide search for Many resident Tony Procell, 25. Procell was taken at gunpoint from a New Hope Road home, east of Many on Aug. 20. Caught on surveillance tape was the abduction committed by Natchitoches policeman Robert Barthelemy. After a high-speed chase on I-49, the accused was  pprehended around 3 a.m. on Aug. 21 and taken into custody.  He was charged with home invasion, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree murder
