I Claudette “DeeDee” Palmer would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for Alderwoman District C, Town of Many.

I am a lifelong resident of Many, mother of three (Brandon, Krystal, and DeVante Palmer), grandmother, business owner, and concerned citizen. I would like to help our town develop plans to attract industry and develop opportunity zones for entrepreneurs; therefore, give our children the option to remain home and provide a good living for themselves in the Town of Many.

As a business owner, I would like to help the Town of Many make plans to improve economic development, infrastructure projects that are designed to foster growth within our town. NOT just overlaying streets during the spring and digging them up in the summer and fall because of an outdated and crumbling water system.

Phil Sepulvado, vice president tof the Noble Sons Riding Club, presented a check for $600 to Walt Korb of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This will go toward the purchase of a flag pole for the Freedom Circle.

On Friday and Saturday, Sabine Parish Homeland Security was able to get the National Guard to bring in pallets of bottled water for Sabine Parrish. Local firefighters and volunteers helped to distribute the water to people in vehicles and to the police to help direct traffic. It’s times like this that the community pulls together to help one another. Please check on your neighbors to see if you can assist them in any way.

Mayor Ken Freeman is proud to report that the town of Many has provided new signs that will be going up at all of the entrances coming in and out of Many and a new sign will also be going up at Many High School celebrating yet another state championship for our Many High School Tigers.

(The Center Square) – Louisiana teachers, school support staff, day care workers, pregnant women and residents age 55-64 with certain health conditions will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination starting Monday, Gov. John Bel Edwards said Thursday.

Qualifying health conditions are listed on the Louisiana Department of Health’s website and include cancer, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Down syndrome, several heart conditions, obesity, sickle cell disease, smoking and Type 2 diabetes. Residents in the new age range will be required to fill out a form attesting they have at least one of the conditions before getting vaccinated.

Vaccination is available by appointment only. State officials announce on Mondays the locations and contact information for providers getting some of the state’s vaccine supply each week.

As of 12 p.m. Sunday, Cleco has restored power to 98 percent of the roughly 43,000 customers who lost electricity after a second winter storm hit the company’s service territory within the same week.

“There are a small number of customers without power, and we’re working to restore power to these remaining customers today. Any customer who does not have power after today, should call and report an outage,” said James Lass, director of distribution operations and emergency management.

The Department of the Interior announced today that it will host initial consultations with Tribal leaders next month. In addition to honoring and strengthening the nation-to-nation relationship, these steps will help ensure that future White House and Interior efforts at addressing the four converging crises of our time – COVID-19, economic security, racial justice and climate change – are inclusive of Tribal Nations’ priorities and recommendations.

In an effort to make your hometown to look its best, the town of Many is going to start enforcing our ordnance #1 of 2009. Mayor Ken Freeman is instructing the Chief to have her patrol officers who ride up and down the streets of Many to find any citizens in violation of the 12 year old garbage ordinance that says the following:

It shall be unlawful for any person to place any garbage in front of any residence in the town, without same being in a sturdy plastic (not a plastic garbage bag) or metal indestructible container with a lid that dogs, cats or any other type of animal can get into, that can be picked up and dumped into the garbage wagon to be hauled away.

The Louisiana Attorney General’s office filed indictments on February 8 after a Sabine Parish Grand Jury issued two true bills.

John Anthony “Jay” Booker of Many was indicted on two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile. He was a teacher at Many Junior High and was later transferred to the SPARKS school.

Normal Ural Booker III, Many High School principal, was indicted on five counts.

(The Center Square) – Offshore oil exploration can go hand-in-hand with President Joe Biden’s stated goals of reducing carbon emissions and fighting climate change, Louisiana officials argued Wednesday.

State government and business leaders said they are deeply concerned about the federal government’s current 60-day moratorium on oil production on federal land and water, and about what regulations will be imposed on the industry after the moratorium ends. For Louisiana, the main concerns have to do with offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
