New CEO takes control of Sabine Medical Center

James Calvin Green, who assumed the CEO position at Sabine Medical Center on November 14, is excited about his new position and has pledged to make a difference in the care received at the local hospital. He has enjoyed a career of 35 years in hospital administration. “I have met many genuine people who reside here and that really makes me want to work hard and make a difference in the community,” he stated.

Medical Center Pharmacy opens at new location

Excitement crackled through the air as a large number of customers, friends and business leaders joined together at noon on Tuesday, December 20 to witness the ribbon -cutting ceremonies at Medical Center Pharmacy. Located in the former Selma’s Fashions location across from Market Basket, Gewin moved into a spacious area. Using “Minecraft,” Gewin designed his new pharmacy and then used his beloved New Orleans Saints’ décor. “It’s a real joy coming to work everyday,” he stated.

“We All Need Trees” theme of 2016 Sabine SWCD luncheon

Alan Williams, Vice Chairman offered opening remarks to attendees at the twenty second annual Sabine Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) awards luncheon on December 7. He quickly thanked the sponsor, Bank of Montgomery now called BOM, and Daniel Bennett, Vice President and Commercial Lender at the Many Branch for donating the funds for the awards luncheon. BOM has teamed with us for three years to promote our luncheon. Awards were presented to teacher of the year; 10 poster winners, and their teachers; and to Margie Brown, Sabine SWCD board member and Roy Lee Brown, her husband for the Louisiana Century Farm recognition for the Butler, McInnis and Brown Farm.

City Hall hosts reception honoring community members

The town of Many kicked off, “A Children’s Christmas” at City Hall on Friday December 9 with a reception preceding the parade. Christmas Parade Committee Chairman Gay Corley greeted everyone dressed as Elsa from the movie, “Frozen” and her float was decorated to match. City council, parade committee members, Mayor Ken Freeman and family, and the Burkett family met and greeted the guest who came by and enjoyed food provided by the local restaurants.

Tree of Remembrance celebrates 29th year

For the past 29 years, Warren Meadows Funeral Home has sponsored a Tree of Remembrance and Scroll of Honor. Grief is a particularly hard emotion to deal with, and those dealing with the emotion during the holiday season following the death of a loved one has a considerably harder time.

TBCAC: Continue public access to Toledo Bend

If you care about continued public access to America’s #1 bass fishery, please read this article. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Operating License for Toledo Bend Reservoir, which was approved in August 2014, was revised in April 2015 to require that a Drought Contingency Plan (DCP) be submitted to FERC. That Drought Contingency Plan was due to FERC on December 15.

She was a bounding bundle of energy, much as she is now.

Phyllis Murdock named Zwolle Christmas parade grand marshal

The Mayor and Council members of the town of Zwolle are happy to announce Phyllis Murdock as the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Zwolle Christmas Parade. Murdock’s service and philanthropy has exceeded five decades during which she served the Zwolle community in many roles. A reception honoring her will be held on December 17 at 11 a.m. at Zwolle City Hall. The Zwolle Christmas Parade will follow at 2 p.m., beginning at the Zwolle High School campus following the traditional route.

Butler, McInnis, Brown Farm inducted into the Louisiana Century Farm Program

At a time when fewer Americans are choosing farming as an occupation the Sabine Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) in Many, Louisiana annually pays tribute to a local farmer at our awards luncheon. The 22nd luncheon was held on December 7 at the Sabine Shrine Club in Many. The Bank of Montgomery (BOM) provided financial sponsorship that allows us to broadcast a message of hope to our youth and the agriculture community in Sabine Parish through education programs. The BOM was established in 1903 with branches in Alexandria, Benton, Castor, Cloutierville, Haughton, Many, Montgomery, Natchitoches, Ringgold, and Shreveport.

Zwolle High’s Eaves wins multiple awards

On December 8, Dewey Eaves was honored by LACUE (Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators) during the annual LACUE Board Meeting and Awards Ceremony for being selected as the Region VI LACUE 2016 Secondary Teacher of the Year. After all regional winners were honored, it was then announced that Eaves had also been selected as the LACUE
