Churches celebrate Christmas in Hanging of the Green

Members of the Community Christmas Choir performed a unique and moving presentation of the Hanging of the Green on Tuesday night, December 5 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Many. This onetime performance took the place of the annual cantata. Directing the choir was Carole Troha, with Patsy McCormick on keyboard and Gail Thomas adding the pealing bells at the close of the service. A welcome was given by the Rev. Bo Horne, pastor.

Ten churches participated in the service, including Church of God, Ebenezer Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church of Zwolle, Friendship Baptist Church, Grace Lutheran Church, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Siloam Baptist Church, Spring Ridge Baptist Church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the First United Methodist Church of Many

Viewing slated for Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love

It’s a story that will warm your hearts and help your family to understand the true meaning of Christmas. In 1955 East Tennessee, the Parton children make a momentous decision to forego their “store-bought” Christmas presents so that their father can afford to give their mother the wedding ring that she has always wanted.

Unwilling to see his children face such deprivation, Robert Lee Parton takes a job in a coal mine several counties away so that he can make enough money to buy the ring himself and still allow his children to have their desired gifts, but this takes him away from home just before the arrival of a snowstorm worse than the area has ever seen before.

Accident claims life of Brumfield

Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man and moderately injured another.  The man killed was not wearing his seat belt and was operating his vehicle in the wrong lane of travel.  Alcohol usage is a suspected factor.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 p.m., which occurred US Hwy 171 near Zwolle.  The crash involved a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Wallace I. Brumfield (B/M 50 yrs) of Many, LA and a 2008 Ford Taurus, driven by William B. McNeely Jr. (W/M 81 yrs) of Many, LA.  The Pontiac was southbound on US Hwy 171, traveling the wrong way, in the left northbound lane.  This action resulted in the Pontiac colliding head on with the Ford, which was traveling northbound in the left lane.

Brumfield was transported to Sabine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

McNeely Jr. was wearing his seat belt and received moderate injuries.  He was transported to Sabine Medical Center for treatment.

Parade, festivities to welcome Christmas season in Sabine

Anticipation of this year’s Many Christmas Parade and Festival has been high during the past week, as Chairman Gay Corley and her committee put the final touches on the weekend extravaganza, with begins with the annual parade and followed by a festival at the Sabine Parish Fairgrounds Saturday, December 9.

Several months of hard work by an active committee has resulted in a tableau of activities ushering in the annual Christmas celebration.

MHS Band to present Christmas concert

Music lovers throughout Sabine Parish will want to attend the second annual Christmas Concert given by the Many High School Band. The award-winning band is under the direction of conductor Scott DeBose. The concert is at the Many Community Center on Tuesday night, December 12,at 7 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children.

Annual “Tree of Remembrance” program set for Dec. 14

This year marks the 30th year of the annual Warren Meadows Funeral Home “Tree of Remembrance” memorial program. This memorial pays tribute to the families that Warren Meadows Funeral Home has served in the past year. It will be held on Thursday, December 14 at 6 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many.

They will have a dedication service conducted by local ministers. The staff invites you to join them and share in this memorial. At the conclusion of the service, the staff will present you with your ornament as a keepsake.

Sabine Parish early childhood performance profile shows gains

As part of the 2012 Act 3 law, known as the Early Childhood Education Act, Sabine Parish Universal Preschool entered a state pilot program and eventually became the lead agency for the Sabine Parish Early Childhood Network.

As the lead agency for the network, the agency has worked diligently to establish a uniform standard of readiness for kindergarften.

MHS Band slates Christmas concert

The talented and award-winning Many High School Band, under the direction of Scott DeBose, will present a Christmas Concert on Tuesday night, December 12 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Many Community Center in downtown Many.

Christmas music and other selections will be played as part of the Town of Many’s “Magical Christmas” celebration.

Treasure Chest celebrates with open house, Chamber ribbon-cutting
