Rutherford to play softball at LSUA

Article Image Alt Text

By Donna Dyson-Horn

Good news hit Florien High School about fellow student RyLeigh Rutherford, that she had signed up to continue her dream of playing softball, this time with LSUA. RyLeigh is the 17-year-old daughter of Ryan and Shelly Rutherford of Florien. She will graduate in 2018 from FHS and will attend LSUA in the Fall of 2018. RyLeigh will graduate with a 4.0

I wanted to know what made RyLeigh play softball in the first place. Well, she has been playing ball since she was five years old. She played two years of t-ball and one year of pitching machine with the boys. She was the only girl all three years to be chosen to play All-Stars. She would hang her bag in her own dugout, but it was RyLeigh who would show those boys up on the field.

Many Rotary celebrates 50 years of service

Article Image Alt Text

The Christmas Party for the Rotary Club of Many was held in the Shrine Building on December 5. Because the meeting was to honor the 50th Anniversary of the club, all charter members were invited to attend. The banquet committee, consisting of Brandy Soileau, Janice Young, and Mary Perry, did a great job of decorating the room and providing beautiful poinsettias that were later given away as door prizes. President Buddy Wood read the names of each charter member and reminisced about past fundraisers. Stories were told of selling fruit, annual pancake suppers at Many High School, rummage sales, mud rides, concession stands, fashion shows, and various other service projects.
