A Dog’s Purpose to screen for Humane Society

“A Dog’s Purpose,” a special movie about a special dog, is the feature movie at the Many Community Center on Saturday, January 20, at 7 p.m.

The movie has a special purpose too. It is the first annual fundraiser at the theater for the Sabine Parish Animal Shelter and the dogs, cats, and other animals housed in the shelter.

Movie goers are asked to give donations at the theater that the shelter can use to buy needed items and supplies for the animals. They are also asked to bring dog or cat toys, blankets, towels, dog and cat beds, for the animals.

Kendall to be charged in two homicides

Blake Joseph Kendall

The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Department arrested a subject on January 11 that has been implicated in two recent homicides in Sabine Parish.

Blake Joseph Kendall, 39, of Many was booked into the Sabine Parish Detention Center for theft of a firearm on January 11 and is currently being held without bond. Investigators are in the process of obtaining two warrants on Kendall for first degree murder in the recent shooting deaths of two Sabine Parish residents.

January is a month for music lovers

Music lovers need to save the dates for two special music concerts at Music in Many during the month of January.

The Ark-La-Tex Legends Band, a longtime favorite local band, will reunite on Friday, January 19, to pay tribute to its leader Rod Hopkins, who passed away in 2016.

Pastor Louis Smith and the congregation of Kings Chapel AMEC wish to cordially invite you to attend their 21st annual Martin Luther King Jr. March and Celebration on January 15.

The march will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of MLK and East Alabama street in Many. They will march to Kings Chapel where the program will begin at 11 a.m.

Sabine Chapter DAR moves forward in service

The Sabine Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in February 1959, with Clara Long Knott as organizing regent. Her leadership in DAR influenced many projects and programs in our community. Along with Mrs. Knott, the work of many DAR women has affected our community and our country for the better.

It is the intent of Sabine Chapter to spend the next 60 weeks looking back at contributions the DAR has made to our community as well as our state, country, and around the world. We will tell the stories of our Patriots, look back at interesting events and awards presented through the years, and we will share more about the volunteer efforts of Today’s DAR.

Lake association announces 2018-19 gun raffle

The Toledo Bend Lake Association (TBLA) is pleased to announce the Fifty-Two Gun Raffle for 2018-19.

These guns are comprised of only shotguns and rifles. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold, and all tickets will be eligible for all 52 drawings. Two tickets will be drawn at the TBLA Bass Unlimited Banquet held on April 20

AJ Carter to become Arizona State Sun Devil

After a whirlwind recruiting season that never seemed to end, AJ Carter has made his final decision and signed his National Letter of Intent to play with the Arizona State Sun Devils on December 20.

During his four years with the Many Tigers, Carter has amassed a massive amount of yardage and touchdowns, while serving as a role model to younger players and fans alike.
