Hawks named runners-up after heartbreaking final

Article Image Alt Text

By Daniel Jones, editor

An absolute heartbreaker is the only way to describe the LHSAA Class B finals as it pertains to the Zwolle Hawks, who were chasing their first state championship. The final against Oak Hill began as a pitchers’ duel, with Zwolle first opening the scoring at the top of the third inning after Christian Howard got on board and then Britt, who would eventually steal third before being left on third. Oak Hill came back in the bottom of the third with a lead off single, but saw the Hawks defense work out of a tough situation for no runs to score.

It was the bottom of the fourth where things got tougher for the Hawks when an error allowed a runner to reach first. Another single saw Oak Hill put two base runners on with no outs. A few batters later and the Rams had a 3-1 lead. They would score two more in the bottom of the fifth.
