Escapee surrenders after day-long manhunt, Oct. 20

A Sabine Parish inmate enjoyed 15 hours of freedom Monday, Oct. 20 after escaping from the Sabine Parish Detention Center, according to Sheriff Ronny Richardson. According to the reports, at about 3:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20 Mack H. Johnson Jr., 31, of Many, escaped restraints and ran out the door of the facility and into a heavily wooded area. A deputy pulled away from another who wrestled with him as he was fleeing.

Sabine tourism up during peak months

The Sabine Parish Tourist Commission is pleased to report that Sabine Parish is recording increased tourism to the parish this year. For the months of August, revenues were up 28 percent while they were up 20 percent for September. Regardless, these stats will prove even more that Toledo Bend is the second biggest tourist destination in the state.

Inmate escapes from detention center, Monday

An inmate at the Sabine Parish Detention Center escaped in the early morning hours of Oct. 20 after getting out of his restraints and running by a deputy that was on his way out of the jail. Mack H. Johnson, Jr., 31, of Many, was awaiting trial for theft and forgery charges when he made his escape around 3:30 a.m. Johnson was able to pull away from the deputy and make it out of the jail.

Town receives grant for repairs at Hart Airport

Many’s Hart Airport officially closed for repairs Monday morning, Oct. 20 at 8 a.m. The airport will be closed up to 90 days for the repairs. Airport Chairman Kenneth Ammons stated, “We are hoping for 60 days, but that depends on weather.” Early Monday morning, Airport Manager Lee Woods was on site watching as the machinery began digging up the present runway.

CASA brings awareness to Sabine

The fourth annual Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children awareness social was held on Oct. 16 at VFW Post #4858 in Many and brought several guest speakers and a sense of urgency for volunteers to the people of Sabine Parish. The local CASA group was started in 2003 in order to change the trajectory of the life of children who have found them-selves wrapped up in the legal situations due to any number of reasons.
