Community Choir carols at Depot for 12 Days of Christmas

The Christmas Community Choir from the First United Methodist Church of Many provided a concert of carols at the Depot on Wednesday night, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. Directed by Carole Troha, with accompaniment by Patsy McCormick at the keyboard and Kayla Hataway on the flute. America’s first USO building

DeRIDDER - Located in west central Louisiana is one of the most historic buildings in America. Yes, the very first  building used exclusively for the USO during World War II is located in DeRidder. This building is still located in this quiet town in Louisiana and today is known as the War Memorial Civic Center in honor of 47 young men from this area who were killed in action during World War II. Also housed in this beautiful building is the War Room Museum that has many items from World War II on display.

The surrounding community has been so kind and have given me the opportunity to be a big part of the Toledo Bend Community. I would like to just say thanks for all the support and loyalty that you have given me. Jami Kelley, stylist, has been with Mitchell’s since  April 2012. She is attending our Apprenticeship Program to become a barber.

Mr. Brian Tannehill of Many and Ms. Patti Tannehill of Lafayette announce the engagement of their daughter, Sara Elizabeth  Tannehill to Richard Blair Zuschlag, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Zuschlag of Lafayette. Sara is the granddaughter of the late Edna Shirley, Floyd Peterson, and Richard and Marion Tannehill. She is a 2000 graduate of Many High School and a 2004 graduate of Northwestern State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration

Christmas decorations, lights set Depot aglow

A 12’ Christmas tree is the focal point of one of the rooms in the Depot, located on Railroad Ave. in Many. The tree,  eautifully decorated and surrounded by gaily wrapped packages is sure to delight any child. A white rocker sits nearby and wil l be where Santa Claus greets and meets the little children, who drop by after the Many Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14.

14 students earn GEDs

The Sabine Parish School Board and the Northwest Louisiana Technical College-Sabine Valley Campus would like to congratulate 14 students for their efforts and perseverance in successfully obtaining their GEDs. Those who earned their GEDs were Dillion Procell, Jesse Parrie, Jordan Elliott, Joseph Procell, Santiago Gonzalez, Suzan Wyler, Tory Bridges, Waylon Thomas, Chelsea Lewis, Ronnie Seaman, Casey Gaddis, George Dingus, Christopher Kay and Taylor McLaren.

Gribbin, Pearson to wed

The parents of Patten Allanna Gribbin and Skylar James Pearson, both of Bossier City, are proud to announce the upcoming wedding of their children. Gribbin is the daughter of Shelly Gribbin and Mark Gribbin, both of Many and is a 2011 graduate of Negreet High School. She graduated from NWLTC in 2012 with a degree in PCT and Phlebotomy and currently works at Omega Laboratories.

Local painter takes first place at State Fair, again

Thirteen years ago Sue Hayden and her husband, Jerry, retired to Toledo Bend Lake from Eunice. Several years ago, she realized that she couldn’t tend to her yard and flowers anymore, so she turned to friends for help. “I knew I needed something to do, so I began taking art lessons from Rose Ditrick at the Toledo Center, Sabine Council on Aging,” she said.
