TBLA Announces Sponsor of 2014 Bass Unlimited Poster

The Toledo Bend Lake Association (TBLA) will unveil its annual Bass Unlimited (BU) Poster during the Unveiling Gala and Auction at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, in the Conference Center at Wildwood Resort on beautiful Toledo Bend Lake. The Unveiling Gala is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Toledo Bend Lake Association is a non-profit organization that sponsors the Annual Bass Unlimited Banquet and Auction as its major fundraising project to support and benefit Toledo Bend Lake.

65th wedding anniversary

SCOA groups enjoy NSU production of ‘Hairspray”

A large group of local citizens from the Toledo Center and Legacy House, Sabine Council on Aging’s sites, attended the Northwestern State University’s theatrical production of “Hairspray.” Two groups rode SCOA buses to Natchitoches Thursday afternoon, Feb. 20 at 4:15 p.m. Kayla Hataway drove the Legacy House group and Jackie Snider brought the group from Toledo Center on the lake

4-H’ers participate in Cookery Contest

A total of 37 4-H students participated in the Sabine Parish Cookery Contest on Monday, Feb. 17. This year’s entries doubled in size, since many entered multiple contests, according to Agent Nan Arthur. Winners included the following:
Eggs Appetizer/Salad: 1st place— Jake Farmer; 2nd place—Logan Sepulvado; Egg/Dessert: 1st place—Nathan Jones; 2nd place—Robyn Husband; and 3rd place—Lora Peace; Egg/Main Dish: 1st—Navy Britt

On Saturday, Feb. 1, three Sabine Parish 4-H’ers took part in an invitational duck hunt sponsored by the famous Honey Brake Lodge located nears Jonesville. Seventeen “Young Guns”, a group of youth who are interested in wildlife and wildlife habitat management, along with civic engagement, from around the state, were all invited to share a meal and participate in what was a once-in-a-lifetime hunt for most

In west central Louisiana, there is a remnant of the days of the Louisiana Maneuvers and World War II that is very often
overlooked. Nestled and preserved in the town of DeRidder is the location of the old DeRidder Army Air Base, with its original hanger, runways, streets and remains of some of the World War II buildings still intact and in use! Yes, the old base is now the Beauregard Regional Airport and is continuously in use even to this day
