SCOA fan drive provides cooler temps for seniors

Senior citizens in Sabine Parish will be a little bit cooler this summer, thanks to the annual June Fan Drive, sponsored by the Sabine Council on Aging.  According to Director Ginger Patton, a total of 112 fans were donated by CLECO (40) and the
Caddo Council on Aging (72) to be distributed to seniors in the area.

Northwestern hosting Boys and Girls State programs

Northwestern State University will host the Louisiana Boys and Louisiana Girls State programs June 22-28. Louisiana
Boys and Girls State is a summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary for high school students between their junior and senior year. The programs will be held concurrently on the NSU campus.

Tamale Fiesta sets pageant

The 39th Annual Tamale Fiesta Pageant will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Zwolle Festival Grounds Recreational Building. Age divisions include Baby Miss, Tiny miss, Toddler Miss, Petite Miss, Little Miss, Deb Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Queen Miss. The deadline to enter is Aug. 8, and absolutely no late registrations will be accepted. The cost is $50 for ages 0-16 and $60 for ages 17-22

Rebel State Park seeks harmonica players

If you play the harmonica and would like to participate in a little friendly competition with fellow harmonica musicians, Rebel State Historic Site is looking for you! The 2014 Rebel State Historic Site Harmonica contest will take place on Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m. There is no registration fee, if you register before the day of the contest; there will be a $25 registration fee the day of the contest
