NSU sets two sessions of Summer Dinner Theater

Northwestern State University’s Summer Dinner Theatre will present “Nunsense II” June 14-17 and 21-24 and “Murder in the Court” July 26-29 and Aug. 2-5. Both shows will be performed on the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium stage. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m.

Winners named from Career, Education Expo

Seven door prizes were awarded to students attending the April 3 Career & Education Expo, sponsored by the Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce, according to Executive Director Kenneth Ammons.

The grand prize winner of a HP laptop was MaKayla Jordan, a sophomore at Florien High School. She will graduate in 2019. MaKayla is interested in the medical field.

Austin and Earnest to wed

It is with great joy that we announce the upcoming wedding of our children, Courtney Paige Austin to Tyler Dewayne Earnest. Courtney is the daughter of Kimberly Faircloth Weber of Noble and Wm. Keith Austin of Pineland, Texas. Tyler is the son of Stephanie and Bill Slayton of Zwolle.

The couple will be united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church, May 5 at 6 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Zwolle Festival Building.

“Support the Fort” meeting to be held at Fort Jesup SHS

Fort Jesup State Historic Site, declared a “National Historic Landmark” by the United States Congress due to its important role in American History, has been on “caretaker” status since 2015 and is open to the public by appointment only.

A group of concerned citizens have formed the “Friends of Fort Jesup” to help keep the site open but need your help. If you think Fort Jesup is worth saving as a historical site and community resource, please join the friends on Tuesday May 9 at Fort Jesup State Historic Site at 5:30 p.m. for the monthly meeting.

They will be planning the upcoming “Fort Fest” celebration on Saturday June 3 honoring the 195th Anniversary of the founding of Fort Jesup, discussing future plans for site, and future events.
