Etheridge competes in first horse show

Brennan Etheridge competed in his first Horse Halter Showmanship Show on September 23 at the Natchitoches Fair Grounds. Although this was his first competition, he handled his horse, Jig, with confidence of a natural pro.

Toledo Bend Bass Club holds tournament

The Toledo Bend Bass Club recently held their September tournament during a very nice day on the lake.

Michael Woods took first place with a 17.66 pound stringer. Placing second was Glen Swihart with 12.53 pounds. Sammy Ray Foote placed third with 11.46 pounds.

Craigs celebrate 60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Craig celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 9 with family and friends at the church they were married in: Spring Ridge Baptist Church. They’ve lived in the Pleasant Hill area for all of their life.

Jessica Gray named Miss Sabine Fair and Rodeo

On September 16, the Sabine Fair and Rodeo Inc. held their annual pageant to welcome in the new royalty who will reign over their 108th annual fair and rodeo.  

The newly crowned Miss Sabine Fair and Rodeo, Jessica Lynn Gray of Florien wants to take this opportunity to invite you to the Sabine Parish Fair and Rodeo September 25h-29.  Join her and her court for a great time filled with carnival rides, fabulous fair foods, games, rodeos and laughter.  There is truly something for everyone at the Sabine Parish Fair and we would love to see you there.

This year’s fair will host a youth rodeo on Thursday night and will proudly hold the first annual Benton Johnson Memorial Rodeo that weekend.  Grab your boots and head on down to the Sabine Fairgrounds.

Ft. Jesup CAR holds meeting

The Fort Jesup Society of the Children of the American Revolution (CAR) met on September 7.

President Nicholas Tarver called the meeting to order. The prayer was led by William Tarver and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Allie Tarver. After a brief business meeting, the presentation of “The Ride of Paul Revere” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was given by Nicholas. A discussion followed about the poem and the importance of letting the “Americans” know of the route that the British would take.

Swihart wins Many Bass Club tourney

Glen is back to his winning ways! Glen Swihart, who dominated the club’s leader board in 2017, won the Many Bass Club’s September 2018 tournament with a five-fish stringer weighing 12.96 pounds.

Swihart caught his fish in the Six Mile area of the lake using a jig and sinko in grass 4 – 6 feet deep.

Gary Moore is the second place finisher with a three-fish stringer weighing 9.22 pounds and George Herr is the third place champ with a five-fish stringer weighing 8.98 pounds. Moore also claims big bass honors with a 5.23-pound lunker.

Greater Wayside Temple to hold Ladies for Jesus Conference

The Greater Wayside Temple COGIC will hold their Ladies for Jesus Conference on September 14-16 featuring singing, teaching, preaching, and praying.

The event begins on September 14 at 7 p.m. for Missionary’s Fest.

Then Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with training and guest speaker and missionary Sandra Moody of Holy Way COGIC in Shreveport.

Sunday begins at 3 p.m. with guest speaker and missionary Annie Gatlin of Keatchie COGIC.

Registration is $25 and includes repass Friday night, breakfast, and two lunches along with workshop materials.  Come and be blessed.

Marthaville news

Our Marthaville Good Ole Days Festival is now less than a month away and already orders are coming in right and left to purchase one of this year’s festival T-shirts. You can get in touch with Shirley Hennigan at 318- 472-1654 or 903-474-3336 or just stop by and she can fix you up! All of the T-shirts are located at her house, all you have to do is stop in or call to have her put your shirt back for a later pick up.

This year will be another great year, vendors are coming in, some with food, some with crafts but it will be something for everyone. Be sure you mark it down and be there.

Mt. Carmel Baptist supporting OCC

The children of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church have been busy buying items to pack in their Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. They have increased the number of shoeboxes from their church so that more underprivileged children from around the world will receive needed items while hearing about Jesus’s love.

Water donated to fall festival
