City Bank assists Florien FFA

Steel Magnolias materials on display

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the release of “Steel Magnolias” this year, the Cammie G. Henry Research Center at Northwestern State University has loaned out some of its materials to the Natchitoches Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Located at 780 Front Street, Suite 100, the display was curated by Assistant Archivist Sharon Wolff and installed by volunteer student Elliot Davis. Available for viewing for the next few months, fans of the film will also be able to find another small display on the third floor of the Watson Library. Additional material is kept in the Cammie G. Henry Research Center and is open to the general public. For questions about the display downtown, contact the Bureau at 800-259-1714. Information on the Cammie G. VFW holds fundraiser for JoAnna Presseau

Zwolle-Ebarb VFW recently held a fundraiser for JoAnna Presseau. Shown in the picture from left are Ron Delaney, Pat Getschel, Lisa Delaney, JoAnna Presseau, Shari Presseau Sepulvado and Barbara Sepulvado. Ron Delaney is the Commander of VFW Post 4588, Gandy Brown- Bossier City and Lisa Delaney is the Auxiliary and District 12 Auxiliary President. They traveled to the event to make a donation from their Post 4588.

A fundraiser was held at the Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Post building by family and community members for JoAnna Presseau, one of the Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Auxiliary members.

Presseau was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer in the blood and experienced kidney failure of both kidneys. She has been undergoing cancer treatments and dialysis.

Holy Land trip planned

On June 1-11, 2020, there will be a trip to the “Holy Land” with cost from Houston to Houston being $4,242 which includes cost of insurance.

The flyer states the trip will warm your heart and thrill your soul as you explore the land where time began. The Bible comes alive before your eyes as you remember the stories, miracles, and lessons on the sites where they were lived and taught many years ago. Attendees will walk where Jesus walked, visit the empty tomb, worship at a communion service, be immersed in the Jordan River, ride in a boat on the Sea of Galilee, and hear about the miracles that Jesus performed. One can also float in the Dead Sea after viewing it from the top of Masada and see the awesome city of Petra, Jordan.

Will Tarver presented a report on William Hamilton Armstrong, his ancestor that served in the American Revolution.

At the August meeting of the Fort Jesup Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution Hannah Flynn presented her program project. She researched tea ceremonies that Mrs. Washington used to teach her children about etiquette, manners, and polite conversation and presented her findings to the group.

Attending the South-Central Region Meeting in Edmond, Oklahoma on June 16-18 from the Fort Jesup Society were National Registrar Robert Lombardino, State First Vice President Nicholas Tarver, and Honorary State President Leah Swanstrom. The group took part in leadership training forums along with information sessions about the National President’s project Foundations of Freedom.

Project Celebration offers back-to-school advice

School is starting and many of us have a fear of our child being bullied. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, “at least 10% of children are bullied regularly, approximately 50 percent are the target of bullying at some point during their school year.” This bullying even occurs at daycares and preschool levels. If your child is an ongoing target for a bully it can lead to serious consequences down the road. It can cause anxiety disorders, eating disorders, low self-esteem, depression and even alcohol and drug use at early ages. Some kids that are being bullied may never say anything but here are some potential signs to look for: Bruises, scrapes, marks or other unexplained injuries.

Zwolle continues school resource officer program

NSU Folk Festival highlights Louisiana’s rich culture

The audience at the 40th annual Natchitoches-Northwestern State University Folk Festival held on July 26-27 was entertained and educated about the rich and diverse cultural offerings of the state. The Festival featured traditional Louisiana foods, Kidfest activities, music, traditional crafts, narrative sessions, musical informances, and cultural exhibits. This year’s Festival theme “Vive la Louisiane!” was a great success, with a very happy audience.

The Festival opened with a rousing dance, beginning with Cajun dance lessons, followed by Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, and the night closed out with Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band. Side stage performances included Natchitoches gospel group Joyful Sounds, 50 Man Machine, which includes NSU faculty Paul Forsyth, Collier Hyams, and Oliver Molina, and an open jam with Max & Marcy, Ed Huey, and Cane Mutiny.
