The family of Joyce Ann Nation Aymond of Fisher, Louisiana is saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the age of 81 years. She was born on August 9, 1943 in her grandparent’s homestead in Florien, LA to Herbert James Nation and Bertha Wright Nation. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and an alumnus of the University of South Louisiana where she completed a degree in elementary education. Joyce leaves behind her sister, Juanita Mary Carr (Santa Fe, New Mexico). Joyce was beloved mother to four children, Anne Marie Silburn (Baton Rouge, LA), Joycelyn Leigh Aymond (deceased in 2017), Jennifer Aileen Horrigan (Lafayette, LA) and Wilbur Lee Aymond, Jr. Joyce, fondly known as Nanny to those close to her, was grandmother to Cody Strickland (El Dorado, Arkansas), Payton “Sidekick” Silburn (Baton Rouge, LA), Evan Tassin, Alexander Tassin and Joshua Tassin (Lafayette, LA) and Elizabeth Aymond. Joyce was great-grandmother to Cohen Strickland and Stetson Strickland (El Dorado, Arkansas). She leaves behind two step-daughters, Laura Proctor (Port St. Joe, FL) and Monique Burdette (League City, TX) who loved her like a mother, many nephews, nieces and cousins. Joyce was a loyal member of Alford Heights Baptist Church of Many.
Joyce, also known as Mrs. Joyce, was an affectionate, dedicated, kind and hardworking individual who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She had a quiet and reserved demeanor. Those who knew her, know that she loved hard, led a faith filled life and enjoyed her Bible and daily devotionals. Joyce used her Facebook account to remain in contact with family and friends across the country and shared many articles hoping to teach others about Jesus, historical content, and videos with animals. Joyce was a career educator, beginning her teaching career in Lafayette teaching 4th grade. Joyce taught Kindergarten at Negreet High School, Library and elementary grades at Florien High School, computer lab, and different elementary grade levels at South Polk Elementary, and finished her formal education career at Simpson Elementary. Even though Joyce loved her home with her many flowers, she was not fulfilled unless she was making a difference. She served at Helping Hands in Leesville with her friends, including Betty and Cheryl. Joyce loved animals and always had a four-legged friend to take care of throughout her life on earth. Her latest four-legged friend, Gibbs, was with her until the end. Gibbs, a formidable American Bulldog, was adopted from Companion Animal Alliance in Baton Rouge, and was seen riding around with her in the front seat of her SUV. Joyce and Gibbs traveled together to Southern Classic Chicken, Mc-Donalds, Dollar General, Merchants & Farmers in Anacoco and even Helping Hands. The two of them were inseparable and loved each other.
Joyce requested for her body to be cremated and to place a large headstone for her final resting place in the family plot at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Florien, LA. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, at Alford Heights Baptist Church, 235 Byles Street, Many, LA at 10AM with Pastor Billy Gibbs officiating.
Joyce’s family would like to thank the paramedics who flew her to LSU Shreveport Health Center providing her with an adventure that left a smile on her face and the medical team in the trauma center and ICU. Her family - first cousin Joanna Wright Wilson, daughters Anne and Jennifer, grandsons Payton and Cody and granddaughter-in-law, Nicole - made sure she was surrounded by things that made her happy when she came face-to-face with Jesus: beautiful red and yellow roses, delicious sugar, chocolate chunk and coconut cookies, coke zero and a plush bulldog. Joyce’s family would like to thank her extended family and friends who have been in constant contact praying for her healing.
