John was born in Many, Louisiana, and Louisiana is the place he loved. After moving to Marshall, TX, as an adolescent he proceeded to attend Northwestern University and was a member of the fraternity Pi Kappa Phi. Prior to completing college, he began working as a roughneck offshore, a career that would define him in his eyes. He worked his way up the ladder through fairness and ingenuity, to become Rig Manager and had a long and productive career that he was very proud of. After beginning his career, he moved to Nederland, TX where he raised his only daughter. On May 16, 2000 he married his second wife, Betty Parish and they moved to Robeline, Louisiana the same year. With her help, he began a chicken farming business on the Nice Day Farm “Home of the Happy Cow”. Betty and John would continue this labor of love from 2005 to 2017. Finally, in 2017, John decided to retire and enjoy the beauty of the land he loved so much. On the farm, John loved to mow his grass and sit on the front porch to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He also loved his dogs and riding around his property with them on his four-wheeler. John was not only physically a big man, but his presence was big too, and words cannot describe how much he will be missed.
