Catherine “Honey” Douglas

Catherine Douglas, best known as “Honey” passed away at Willis Knighton hospital on Tuesday evening, March 21, 2023, after a brief illness. A graveside funeral service and interment will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 25 at the Zwolle cemetery.

Honey was born January 2, 1940 in Zwolle, the child of Marcy (Parrie) and Jack H. Anderson of Noble, LA who both predeceased her. She was born in the old home of her grandparents, Catalina and John Parrie, on Coon Ridge Road up on Grady Hill. Honey was one of ten children born to Marcy Parrie. Predeceasing Honey were Johnny Lee Reed who passed away at birth in1949 and Michelle Denese Lindsay who passed in 2010 at age 50.

Honey’s surviving siblings are Jess Mahon of San Diego California, Marcela “Dee Dee” Parrie of Auburn Maine, Lovey McGahan of Keithville Louisiana, Diane Barthlow of Houston Texas, Danny Hix of Stockdale Texas, Debra Gray of Denver Colorado, and DaNette Best of Cheyenne Wyoming.

Honey was born prematurely in 1940 and suffered oxygen deprivation that affected her for her entire life. Despite the odds being stacked against her, she found a way to learn housekeeping skills from her grandparents John and Catalina Parrie, and Honey ended up, as an adult, being her mother’s roommate and housekeeper for decades. She has always been a very hard worker, never afraid to take on any tough job. After a storm knocked down pine trees at our house she grabbed an axe and started chopping out the roots to clean things up, like it was nothing. She never worried about pain, either. We found out several years after the fact that she had fractured her hip several times, and never complained or told anyone.

Honey married Charles Douglas on December 11, 1988 and Charlie passed away in 1993. She was proud of her husband and visited his grave over the years.

Honey has lived in a group home since 2000 and held a job that the workers took her to, saving her income to buy a few special things. She memorized nearly every episode of Gunsmoke and The Rifleman on her TV, so she knew exactly when to tell the bad guy sneaking up on someone, “Don’t do that”. She enjoyed nice clothes and jewelry, and proudly displayed photos of her mother in her bedroom. Honey had a deep reverence for her Lord and Savior and loved hearing all about family members. She had no children, but was loved by many.
