Phillip Daniel “Dan” Devaney

February 10, 1941 - August 20th 2022 Phillip Devaney, 81, of Florien, Louisiana passed away August 20th, 2022.

Phillip was born on February 10th, 1941 in Monahans , TX to the late Joseph Thomas Devaney and Rose Marie Devaney.

Dan graduated from De La Salle High School in New Orleans, La. in 1959. He attended college at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, where he met and married Brenda Elaine Pickett. After graduation he attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe and received his Masters of Music Education.

Dan was the second band director at Florien High School. He started at the old school down the hill in a wood frame white building. When the new school was constructed up the hill, Dan was asked to design the new band room where he taught for many years. Dan retired from teaching in Leesville Louisiana where he taught French and fine arts. He was also a member of the Harmon Drew Band where he played the drums. He conducted the choir at the First Baptist Church of Florien where his annual Christmas Contata’s were something not to be missed. He continued to play and write music throughout his life which was his passion.

He had many hobbies and interests including golf, scuba diving, riding his Harley Davidson, traveling the world with his wife and son, and playing music.

Phillip is survived by his son Christopher D. Devaney and his partner James Lyles, four brothers and their spouses, Tim and Pat Devaney, Shawn and Shelly Devaney, Patrick and Deborah Devaney; three Nieces, Jessica Devaney, Jacqui Devaney, Bevin Devaney; two nephews Brian Devaney and Aiden Devaney; many cousins and family members from his large Irish Catholic family in Fort Worth Texas.

Phillip was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Brenda Elaine Devaney A celebration of life will be held Sunday August 28th, 2020 at the Dover House in Florien, Louisiana. The Memorial Service will begin at 2 PM with a luncheon and visitation immediately following the memorial service.

Flowers are welcome; they may be sent to 289 Diamond Drive Florien, Louisiana where they will be picked up and delivered to the Dover House.
