Margaret Virginia Stovall Oosta

Margaret Oosta, 89, passed away peaceably on Friday, August 5, 2022, of heart complications. She was a Shreveport native, born in 1933 to Chris B. and Janie Stovall.

She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, business school and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. While in the service in Illinois, she met her husband, Richard John Oosta who was returning from the Korean Conflict. They married and moved south for him to pursue a medical career at Louisiana State University.

They settled in Sabine Parish and remained there as long as health situations allowed. Margaret was active in church activities, community programs and school functions with her four children. She was known to be a wonderful hostess and loved to entertain family and friends. She remained connected to Shreveport where she ministered to aging relatives, took her girls to the symphony, and enjoyed shopping sprees. Friends described her as a true southern woman, a steel magnolia, beautiful inside and out.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chris B. and Janie Stovall; brother, Chris Stovall, Jr.; husband, Richard John Oosta; son, John Christopher (Jack) Oosta, grandson, Richard Clinton Walsh.

She is survived by her three daughters, Kathy Childress and Mark of Houston; Carol Walsh and Garry of Zwolle; Joanie Dahlem and Freddy of Florien; her grandchildren, Garrett Walsh, III, Derek Bernard, Margaret Caitlin Childress, Tiffany Oosta; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Many from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18. Service will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville.

Pallbearers: Mark Childress, Garry Walsh, Garrett Walsh, III, Freddy Dahlem, Derek Bernard, James Hubbard, Dennis Hubbard and Donald Remedies.
