Mavis Elizabeth Skinner Stephens

Mavis Stephens of Belmont, Louisiana went home to be with the Lord at the age of 87. She was born February 22, 1935 in Belmont, Louisiana to Carl and Velma Skinner.

She graduated from Belmont High School where she was an all-state basketball player, a sport she loved and excelled in. After graduation she attended Norton Business School in Shreveport, Louisiana and spent her working years as a legal secretary. She married the love of her life, Edgar Lavon Stephens on July 7, 1956 and they were married for 50 years until the time of his death. Her major role in life began when she became a mother to her twins Karl and Kandace.

She was an active member of Pinecroft Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana for many years. After moving back home to Belmont, Louisiana she continued to be an active, devoted member of Belmont Baptist Church where she grew up.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar Stephens; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Clevie Skinner; maternal grandparents, Alvin and Lola Austin; parents, Carl and Velma Skinner; brother Don Skinner; nephew, Joey Skinner; and niece, Brinkley Skinner.

She is survived by her son, Karl Stephens and wife, Liz of Belmont; daughter, Kandace Stephens of Belmont; brother, Dale Skinner of Belmont; sisters-in-law, Betty Skinner of Belmont and Patsy Burnett of Plain Dealing; grandsons, Taylor Stephens and wife Stephanie, Jake Hornsby and wife Jamie; great-grandchildren, Jax and D.J. Stephens and Ryleigh, Ryker, Haisley and Avery Hornsby. Also, special niece, Leah Skinner; and nephews, Jody Skinner, Mike Skinner along with a host of great nephews, cousins, friends and family.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Union Baptist Church in Belmont, Louisiana with Bro. Glen Howard, Taylor Stephens, and Bro. John Lewing officiating. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Union Baptist Church, Belmont, LA.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Hendrickson, Jody Skinner, Bradley Salter, Jimmy Durasco, Richard Isgitt and Steve Branson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Skinner and the Union Baptist Church Deacons.
