Evelyn Dees

Funeral services for Evelyn Dees, 101, of Lafayette will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Tidwell officiating. Burial followed in the Many Cemetery.

Evelyn Dees was born on Sunday, May 16, 1920. She passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Maison de Lafayette in Lafayette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. E. (Buddy) Dees; and her parents, William Monroe Hildebrand and Sarah Emma (Stewart) Hildebrand. She was the youngest of seven siblings, Clarence R. Hildebrand; Noah Hildebrand; Oda Walters; Mittie Weldon; Leah McGaha; and Josephine Leach; who all preceded her in death.

Evelyn was born and raised in the Warren community. She attended primary school at Warren Baptist Church, which was also the one room schoolhouse. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School as Salutatorian and then pursued her nurses training at Tri-State Nursing School in Shreveport. Her clinical and practical training was done under the nuns at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and T. E. Schumpert Memorial School of Nursing in Shreveport. She returned home and began her nursing career, which spanned over 40 years of serving her local community. She soon married the love of her life, Buddy Dees, and they began their life together in 1956. She loved their son, Bill, and his family with all her heart and eventually welcomed two grandsons, Jason and Derek, who were both the apple of her eye. She lived in Lafayette for the last seven years and was able to spend some special times with her four great grandchildren. She could never get enough of them and they loved her hugs and kisses! Evelyn will be remembered by many for her service as an RN and surgical nurse. But those who knew her best will remember her as a loving and generous person. Fiercely loyal and protective of the ones she loved, a strong prayer warrior, and always there to lend a helping hand. She gave of herself to so many and we are all richer for having known her. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, William (Bill) Dees and wife Sandra of Lafayette; grandchildren, Jason Dees and wife Liz of Liberty Township, Ohio; Derek Dees and wife Jessica of Lafayette; great grandchildren, Charlotte Dees; William Dees; Eve Dees and Henry Dees; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Mike Luster, Dale Knippers, James Tidwell, Jr., Jack Beaugh, Mike Nichols and Robby Lang.
