Bro. Philip Albert James North

Bro. Philip North, 69 of Zwolle, passed away in Shreveport on August 13, 2021 at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Hospital. Funeral services for him were held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville with interment to follow in Slagle, Louisiana at Holton Cemetery. Officiating his service will be the following, Rev. Mark Christian; Rev. David Clary; Rev. Harry Babers; Dr. Juanita Lockett; Rev. MC Green; Rev. Ricky Pavlu; and Rev. Paul Pruitt.

Philip was born on October 4, 1951 in Leesville to Philip Albert Clyde North and Lillian Margaret (Owens) North. He passed away with his wife of 47 years by his side. She was his lifelong sweetheart and he always bragged about her GREAT cooking! He was a graduate of NSU and was employed by the Sabine Parish School Board as an accountant. He was ordained a minister with the United Pentecostal Church International - his home church was Leesville United Pentecostal Church where he was a lay minister, teacher with his mentor Bro. John Burns, and longtime Bible quiz coach. He served as the Louisiana State Quiz Master for several years encouraging youth to study the word of God. Twenty-five years ago, he accepted the pastoral position at the Zwolle United Pentecostal Church. He was a true servant to the people of Sabine Parish. He was truly welcoming to all people and rejoiced to be able to minister to anyone in need.

He was an avid hunter, who loved nature, native flowers, and raising his rat terriers. He was especially fond of spending time in the piney woods which he considered his special place of reflection and prayer.

Bro. North is preceded in death by his father, Philip “AC” North. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jamie (Pruitt) North of Zwolle; his mother, Margaret (Owens) North of Leesville; his sons, Philip James Paul North of Allen, Texas; Jonathan Richard David North of Zwolle; his daughter, Twila North Alford and husband, Rand of Leesville; his sister, Margaret Rascoe and husband, Sonny of Haughton, Louisiana; his brother, Owen North of LeCompte, Louisiana. He also leaves behind his five grandsons, Alex Magee; Andrew Magee; Tristin North; Asher North; and Jayden North; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

Serving him as pallbearers were Alex Magee, Andrew Magee, Rand Alford, Eraitt Austin, Chase Ebarb, and Tyson Ebarb. His honorary pallbearers were David Austin, Larry Bruce, Asa Skinner, Mark Green, Bobbie Gibson, Sherald Hicks, and Keithen Ebarb.
