Ernestine Evans Theiler Belsha

Ernestine Belsha entered heaven on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the age of 90. She was born on August 29, 1930 in her grandparents house in the woods of Hemphill, Texas to Roy and Lola (Travis) Evans. She was raised on a large farm in Sabine Parish near Florien, Louisiana, where she helped care for her four younger brothers and the many chores associated with farming. She graduated from Pisgah High School, and in 1949, at age 19, she left the family farm to move to the big city of Houston. She worked for the phone company as an operator and met Henri Theiler through a church member. Henri and Ernestine were married on December 15, 1949 and lived in the apartment building that Henri owned until they moved to Pasadena, Texas in the Deepwater neighborhood to be close to Henri’s job at Shell Refinery.

Ernestine is pre-deceased by her first husband Henri of 37 years, her daughters Janie Theiler and Julie Theiler Alvarez, her parents, four brothers, son-in-law Abel Alvarez, Jr., grandson Ronnie Theiler, husband Francis “Toy” Belsha, and numerous beloved family and friends. She is survived by son, Gerald (Jerry) Theiler and wife Vivian, daughter Jo Anne Theiler Bailey, brother Earl Evans, grandsons Donnie Theiler and wife Cheree, Jeremy Alvarez and wife Tina, and Aaron Alvarez; granddaughters Hayley Sabino McGinnis and husband Anthony, Ashley Kauppi Patterson and husband Scott; great-grandsons Henri Patterson and Jesse Alvarez, great-granddaughters Abby McGinnis and Samantha Alvarez, and many beloved family and friends.

Being born during the Depression to farmers brought many challenges, but also made her a wonderful cook, baker, seamstress, quilter, embroiderer, and crocheter. She enjoyed canning the vegetables that her parents, and later, what she grew in her large garden after she moved back to the family farm following the death of her first husband, Henri Theiler, to care for her elderly parents. Ernestine is a descendant of William Barrett Travis, which brought her much pride. She enjoyed her close-knit Evans and Travis families which she kept in touch with, always looking forward eagerly to their reunions.

Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Toledo Baptist Church located at 9339 RR255 East in Burkeville, Texas.
