Funeral services for Dylan “Early” Maurice Lakey, 10, of Toledo Village, Burkeville, TX, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Stringer & Griffin Chapel with burial to follow at Brookeland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the funeral home with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Dylan died at his home on March 14, 2014. Born in Galveston, Texas, he loved hunting with Pap Dan and Paw Paw Lakey, fishing with Uncle Danny and cousin, Cody and participating in outdoor water sports with Pop Pop and Mama Jo. A typical boy, in that he enjoyed playing outside, spending time on the lake with the family and having sleepovers with cousins and friends. Each year he enjoyed preparing tents with family and friends for his annual Ponderosa Birthday Bash. Aunt Laurie would take them to the beach where they loved the ferry ride over to the festivities. Dylan was a fifth grader at Burkeville Elementary. Bailey Wright was his best friend. He loved Bible School at Toledo Baptist Church and youth services on Wednesday nights with Brother Leroy at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He wrestled with his brother “Mukki” and competed with him on video games. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his mother, Jennifer Lakey, of Eunice, LA; grandparents, Greg and Joanne Branch of Burkeville, TX, Larry Manshack of Zwolle, LA, and Paul and Linda Lakey of Brookeland, TX; brother, Devon Lakey of Burkeville; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Lakey. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
