Glenda Sue Simmons Gates, 69, who was originally from Jackson, Miss, and resided in Many most of her life, has passed away in Nacogdoches, Texas, surrounded by family and close friends on Feb, 19, 2014. Her beloved husband and best friend, Raymond Gates as well as her parents, Hillman Stokes Simmons, Sr. and Mildred ‘Mugger’ Minton, preceded her in death. She will be dearly missed by her other siblings, Patricia ‘Patsy’ Phillips; Barbara ‘Bobbie’ Wyers; Hillman Simmons, Jr.; Peggy Page; Clara Schexnayder; and William Simmons; many in-laws; nieces, nephews; cousins and great friends along with her sweet Ginger. Glenda is survived by all of her loving children, Peggy Lyn Price; Larry ‘Lex’ Harwell, Jr.; Kathy Young-Hooter; Antoinette Swetledge; Julie Ann Bernard; Bruce Gates; Scott Gates; and 29 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her friends and family and remembered for awesomely twisted sense of humor, that she shared with her siblings and unfortunately for anyone in their paths, she passed it on to her kids and grandkids. She was a great businesswoman, who never ran out of ideas nor found a project she couldn’t tackle. She was an artist and a poet… and both beautiful on the inside and out.
