Funeral services for Ruth Marie Smith, 89, of Many, were held oat 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Many with Father Tim Hurd and Father Joe Martina officiating. Burial followed in the Many Cemetery in Many. Visitation was held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. Ruth Marie Smith was born Feb. 22, 1924. in Williams, Ariz. She passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Sabine Medical Center in Many. She grew up in Albuquerque, N.M. and studied art at the University of New Mexico. She married C.E. (Bert) Smith on May 20, 1944, during World War II and was happily married for 69 years. During her career as a drafts person, she assisted with the World War II efforts. Later in life, she cared for her family and enjoyed a career as a cartographer. Her hobbies were art, dancing and spending time with her family and taking long neighborhood walks. Family always came first for Mother and hosting all family gatherings was one of the ways she expressed her love. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marguerite Vadeboncoeur Kimball; one sister, Alice Dublinski and two brothers, David Kimball and George Kimball. She is survived by her husband, Cuthbert E. Smith of Many; her children,
Robert K. Smith of Lake Charles; Kathy Johnson of Houston, Texas; Ed Smith of Natchitoches, LA and Mike Smith of DeRidder; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
