Janet Carolyn Phares, 62, of Greensboro, GA, died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Birmingham, Al, she was the daughter of the late William Paul Zipperer and Carolyn Harriett Mathews Zipperer.
She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southwest Texas State in education. On June 18, 1977, she married Many native, Jack Kent Phares in Houston, TX. Janet taught as an elementary school teacher for over 34 years. Her last teaching  position was at Greensboro Elementary School. Prior to that she taught at McGarity Elementary in Paulding County, GA  and Lafayette. Over the years she has changed many lives and been a positive and loving influence to well over 1,000  kids. In 2001, she and Jack moved to the Liberty Community, where she enjoyed life on the farm. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. Janet blessed everyone she ever met and loved helping others. She cherished her family and her granddaughter, and all will be missed greatly. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends. In addition to her husband, Jack Phares, of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by a son, Glen Kirk Phares and his wife,  Kathryn of Winston- Salem, N.C.; a granddaughter, Natalie Carolyn Phares; three brothers, William Zipperer Jr., Frank Zipperer and Eric Zipperer; other relatives and many, many friends. Janet is well described in the words from Proverbs 31: 25-26, “She is a woman of strength and dignity, and has no fear of old age. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule for everything that she says.” Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at
Liberty United Methodist Church in White Plains, GA with the Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Larry Davis, Charlie Kimbrell, Brian Burdette, Darryl Merritt, Jeffrey Merritt and Chuck Adair. The family received friends from noon until time of the service on Jan. 2, 2014, at Liberty United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to Liberty United Methodist Church, c/o Dede Smith, 1691 Bramlett Road, Greensboro, GA 30642. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
