Violent crime rates have declined across the nation in the past decade but Louisiana still ranks as one of the top ten states for violence. The report shows Louisiana with 497 violent crimes per 100,000 residents compared to the national average of 386 per 100,000 people. This was attributed primarily to the state’s elevated poverty numbers and the low educational attainment levels for citizens here as compared to other states.
