Funeral services for Nancy Hazel Horton Carroll, 98, of Many were held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many with the Rev. Wayne Chance and the Rev. Kenneth Baggs, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the Florien Cemetery in Florien. Visitation was Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many. Nancy Hazel Horton Carroll was born to William and Exa Horton on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1915, in Fisher. She grew up in a family of eight girls. She lived in Fisher, Gandy and Many. She was born with a crippled leg and was among the first patients to be treated at the Shriners Hospital in Shreveport. She loved nature, flowers of all kinds and could grow more vegetables in her flower bed than most could grow in a garden. She loved to cook, sew, especially aprons, bonnets and quilts. She made many baby bonnets and adult bonnets for people over the years. She loved cooking homemade rolls and the smell of rolls and cinnamon rolls could be smelled before you got out of the car. She picked out her room at the Sabine Retirement before it opened and remained in that same room until the time of her death. Ms. Carroll passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Horton and Nancy Exa Randolph Horton; husband, Nevia “John” Carroll; daughter, Janice C. Stoneking; grandson, Randal Stoneking; granddaughter, Eleanor Drew Jordan and sisters, Linda H. Stroud; Trudie H. Stroud and Annie Mae H. Howell. She is survived by one son, Tommy Ray Carroll and wife, Kathy, of Fisher; three daughters, Gale Moore and husband, Robert Lee of Hornbeck; Exia Carroll Jordan and husband, Rodney of Florien; and Joal Carroll Beason and husband, Sonny of Lafayette; four sisters, Lona Ford of Benton; Maggie Duhamel and husband, Claude of Stonewall; Billie Hammond and husband, Jim of Florien and Bobbie Pitt of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Teresa Stoneking; John Stoneking; Jim Stoneking and wife, Connie; Renita Stoneking Richa and husband, Eddie; Nanette Moore Williams and husband, Randy; Leann Moore Delagarza and husband, Andy; Patti Moore Manes and husband, Fred; Cindy Gale Moore Twyman and husband, Jerry; Candi Carroll Taylor and husband, Bruce; John Michael Carroll and wife, Lisa; Jamaica Jordan Faraldo and husband, Enrique; Stewart Jordan and wife, Julie; Olivia Beason Michel and husband, Blair and Scott Beason; 23 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers were John M. Carroll, Stewart Jordan, Scott Beason, Jeremy G. Flenniken, Bruce Taylor and Blair Michel.
