Bobby Joe Rush

Funeral services for Bobby Joe Rush, 65, of Many were held July 18 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matt Warren officiating. Burial followed in the Bethsadia Cemetery.

He was born on Sunday, May 30, 1954 in Kountze, Texas, and passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 in Shreveport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertis Henry Rush and Alice Leah Gentry Rush; son, Tommy Joe Rush; and one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Barbra Rush of Many; son, Michael Rush of Natchitoches; daughter, Bobbie Stewart of West Monroe; sisters, Mary Williams of Winnfield, Connie Reed of Winnfield, Susan Woods of Forney, Texas, and Betsy Andrus of Springhill; brothers, Bertis Ray Rush of Campti, Johnny Earl Rush of Millington, Tennessee and Keith Rush of Pineville; grandchildren, Avery Elizabeth Heard, Jaylon Paul Stewart and Kaden Gabriel Rush; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Delores Lewing

Delores “DeLo” Lewing was born December 4, 1935 and passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on July 13, 2019.

Services celebrating her full and joyous life will be held on July 20 at 2 p.m. at Alford Heights Baptist Church in Many with burial at Old Pisgah Cemetery following the service. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. immediately prior to the service.

DeLo was born and raised in Belmont where she became known for her skill on the basketball court at Belmont High School. She later married Wayne Lewing and moved to Fisher where they raised their two daughters, Diane and Kim. DeLo was a kind and steadfast daughter, mother, sister, wife, grandmother, and a friend to all. If you made it out to her house, you could count on a full meal waiting on you, most of which would be lovingly fried, with a side of tea almost as sweet as her. DeLo was a faithful member of Alford Heights Baptist Church, and she loved spending time with her friends in the women’s group.

Lona Ford

Funeral services for Lona Buvins Horton Ford, 97, of Many were held July 13 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Donnie Paul Lewing and Benny Crittenden officiating. Burial followed in the Florien Cemetery.

She was born in Fisher on August 4, 1921 to William Horton and Exia Randolph Horton, and passed away on July 11, 2019 in Many.

Lona is survived by her daughters, Dora Burley of

Keatchie, Shirley Greer and husband Marbury of Many, and Nona Hood and husband Randy of Benton; daughter-in-law, Sue Ford of Robeline; son-in-law, Ray DuBose of Florien; sisters, Maggie Duhamel, Billie Hammond and Bobbie Pitt; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and nine greatgreat grandchildren.

Nora Menasco

Nora K. Menasco of Pass Christian, Mississippi, 79, passed away peacefully at her home on June 29, 2019 surrounded by family and all of the love this world can offer.

She was born in Orchard, Alabama to Edward Sr. and Emma Kelly.

She graduated from Theodore High School where she was in the Beta Club and a majorette.

She spent 56 years with the love of her life, William “Buck” Menasco. Together they raised four children: Cindy Salter and husband, Bruce; Robert “Bobby” Menasco and wife, Susan; Donna Powell; and Lori Mullins and husband, Scott. She had seven grandchildren, Chase Danley and wife, Jessica; Brittany Powell; Heather Hall and husband, Adam; Chris Mullins and wife, Ashleigh; Brandon Powell; Michael Mullins and wife, Heather; and Hannah Powell. She was a great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, Phillip Danley, Alexis Danley, Peyton Mullins and Noah Hall along with many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Billy Wayne Goss, 94, of Many were held July at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Mike Sullivan officiating.

Billy Wayne Goss was born on Friday, October 17, 1924 in Vernon Parish, and passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Berry Lincoln and Wilda Thorla Goss; wife, Marilyn “Pete” McCormic Goss; and siblings Ann Goss, Bobbie Goss, Mary Goss Armour, Majorie Goss Coburn, Dorothy Goss Duke, Ira Glenn Goss, Vernon L. Goss, Wifred “Jack” Goss, and Wilda Goss Snell.

He was survived by his sister, Reba Goss Craft of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Betty Goss of Many; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Barbara Johnson

Barbara Lynn Tibbett Johnson, 66 years of age and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away on July 6, 2019. She was born on June 5, 1953, to Preston Percy and Lucille Veuleman Tibbett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, David Johnson; parents; brothers, Mike Tibbett and Kenny Tibbett; and sister, Theresa Tibbett.

Barbara is survived by nephews, Justin Tibbett, and wife Gretchin and their children, Preston and Lauren; Jason Tibbett and wife Heather and their children, Bailey, Jacob, and Addison; and Kendall Tibbett and wife Lori, and daughter, Morgan; nieces, Ashley Tibbett Morgan, and husband Dennis, and their children, Dennison and Sawyer; and Sara Merchant, and her children, Joseph, Austin, and Emma; sisters-in-law, Linda Tibbett, Elizabeth Ann Tibbett, and Sue Short; and stepchildren, Dacia, Jennifer, and Landon Johnson.

Thomas Self

Thomas Alton Self of Leesville passed away Monday, July 1, 2019 at the age of 87. Tom was born near Ouiska Chitto Creek in Vernon Parish on December 16, 1931 to Ola Mae Cryer Self and Thomas Jefferson Self. He graduated from Anacoco High School in 1950 and went on to LSU, where he served as student body president from 1953-54.

After completing his undergraduate degree at LSU in 1954, Tom attended law school at New York University for a year under the prestigious Root-Tilden Scholarship before leaving to serve two years as a US Army Lieutenant. During his service in Mineral Wells, Texas, Tom met and married Betty Joyce Wester. After their marriage, Tom and Betty returned to Baton Rouge where he completed his law degree at LSU in 1959.

Nada Powell

Nada Louise Wedgeworth Powell, 79, of Florien passed from this life on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Sabine Retirement & Rehab Center in Many.

She was born on November 28, 1939 in Shreveport. She touched the lives of hundreds of young students during her more than 20 years of teaching in Calcasieu and Vernon Parishes. Nada was once honored as Vernon Parish Teacher of the Year. Her primary focus was fifth grade, yet she did teach other levels as needed. She delighted in her myriad of students and many of them still attest she was the first to help them believe they could indeed become and do anything they chose.

Nada was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Mae Wedgeworth.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lynn Powell; children, Teresa Chance, Mike Powell, and Lisa Brent; grandchildren, Matthew Chance and Rachel Powell; brother, Don Wedgeworth; along with a host of friends.

Richard Walsh

Richard Clinton Walsh of Natchitoches passed away on June 30, 2019 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born on May 1, 1988, in Bossier City.

A mass honoring his life was held July 6 at The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches with Father Luke LaFluer serving as celebrant.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers included Jeremy Anderson, Derrick Fontenot, Jonathan Fontenot, Christopher Remedies, Derek Bernard, and Kyle Martinez.

He attended Zwolle schools and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Natchitoches in 2006. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in accounting from Northwestern State University in 2018.

Richard worked in the oil and gas industry for six years and most recently was employed by Walsh Timber Company. He had a tremendous love for life and his family. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, working in the yard and watching baseball.

She was born on Tuesday, March 14, 1950 in Zwolle, and passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Cornerstone Hospital in Bossier City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Knippers; son, Raymond Knippers; son-in-law, Davy LaGrange; and parents, Dennis and Ollie Gass Armstrong.
