Funeral services for Jerry Lynn Cryer, 70, of Many, were held September 19 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Leach, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the Zwolle City Cemetery He was born on Tuesday, September 30, 1947 in Zwolle, and passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Lillian Cryer; and special friend, Evelyn Timmons. He is survived by his sister, Mary F. DeLatin of Many; nephew, Donald Vasquez and wife, Deborah, of Many; niece, Kathy Anderson and husband, Dale, of Hamilton, Oklahoma; grandson, John Timmons of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; special friend, Darlene Knippers of Robeline; along with a host friends. Gathering for Lynn Wilcox, 75, of Bossier City were held Sunday, September 23 at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville. Lynn was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania on March 23, 1943. She passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 in her home in Bossier City. She is preceded in death by her parents; Jason and Ann Burdette Matthews. She is survived by her sons; Tim Wilcox of Bossier City, Tom Wilcox of Barksdale, Air Force Base, Bob Wilcox of Bastrop, Texas, brother; David Matthews of Wheeling, West Virginia, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. On December 14, 2012, Joseph Ryan was born with Hypoplasitc Left Heart Syndrome, meaning he only had half of a heart. The first several months of his life were spent in the hospital, undergoing two different openheart surgeries during that time.

Through this time the child’s father, Many High School football coach Jeremie Ryan and his wife, learned more and more about his condition and CHDs in general and did their best to educate others around us.

The 2A Many Tigers held their first home game of the season against the Class 4A North DeSoto Griffins on September 14 and lost 20-6 in an absolute heartbreaker.

There are advantages to playing bigger schools from higher classes during the start of the season, as it allows teams to work out their kinks before taking on district play and eventually the playoffs.

The Griffins got the ball to start the game, but only put up a little yardage before the Tigers were to take over.

The Fort Jesup Society of the Children of the American Revolution (CAR) met on September 7.

President Nicholas Tarver called the meeting to order. The prayer was led by William Tarver and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Allie Tarver. After a brief business meeting, the presentation of “The Ride of Paul Revere” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was given by Nicholas. A discussion followed about the poem and the importance of letting the “Americans” know of the route that the British would take.

Glen is back to his winning ways! Glen Swihart, who dominated the club’s leader board in 2017, won the Many Bass Club’s September 2018 tournament with a five-fish stringer weighing 12.96 pounds.

Swihart caught his fish in the Six Mile area of the lake using a jig and sinko in grass 4 – 6 feet deep.

Gary Moore is the second place finisher with a three-fish stringer weighing 9.22 pounds and George Herr is the third place champ with a five-fish stringer weighing 8.98 pounds. Moore also claims big bass honors with a 5.23-pound lunker.

It’s Hurricane Season and this year, it means a litte bit more to me. My youngest son, Paul and his wife, Lexie, are residents of Wilmington, North Carolina and as I write this, they are looking at a Category 4 hurricane headed right for them!! Momma is not happy and to say the least, my daughter-in-law is probably packing her suitcase!!

Lexie is not a fan of thunder storms, let alone hurricanes. She has been watching the weather for a week now and is not a happy camper, since they love only about five minutes from Wrightsville Beach. They are in a third-floor condo, which doesn’t help her feelings.

GOOD OLE STORY

Daily we have controversy and anger being stirred up on the t.v. and newspapers. Many times I find great relief to flip to an old Western station. These shows have always been at least a high-water mark to me. Maybe its because the good guy nearly always wins and that is a good feeling to bear in mind.

As I grew up through the years I felt like Many and Sabine Parish was a wonderful playground. On Saturday afternoons I would head to the movies - the Sabine Theater or the Many Theater. (I would get in free because I would deliver circulars for the theater). These movies would inspire my imagination to no end. I would stay for the double feature plus the serial (special between movies) that would consist of Clyde Beatty, Jungle Jim, Edgar Kennedy, the Three Stooges, etc. When I would come home I would be rolling and fired up in my imagination.
