MES names Students of Week

Many Elementary is proud of their Students of the Week for October 8-12.

Pre-K students named are Paisley Langton, Lynlee Davis, Matthew Lucius, Jakira Smith, Camden Dillard, Edan Leone, Kenleigh Cotton, Daydan Ritter Kyle Sims, and Carlton Wilson.

Kindergarten Students of the Week are Rylie Gentry, Gavin Derr, Ayla Jenkins, Kaylee Stewart, Tykeil Sweet, and Dante Rutherford.

On October 3, the Many Junior High 4-H club held its monthly meeting.

Club president Madison Holcomb called the meeting to order, followed by Emily Miller leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Reese Koss leading the 4-H pledge.

On a recent camping trip, I had some time to myself. In other words, I was in a chair sitting outside the motor home just “relaxing” as my grandson would say.

Hubby-dear was inside doing some computer work and I opted to sit outside and read. I had a new book that I was anxious to begin, so, I set up my Ole Miss camping chair and propped my feet up. It was a beautiful day…the sun was shining, the birds were chirping and a calming quietness filled the campground. Every once in a while, a car or truck would slowly pass by. Otherwise, I was enjoying the quiet!

I read a chapter or two and then just leaned back and looked at the sky. Thoughts quickly filled my head…and I soon dozed off. After a short nap, I awoke and read some more. This pattern went on for over an hour… until I spotted a little squirrel scampering around the motor home. I quietly watched him as he picked up acorns and examined his surroundings.

AND NOW TRUMP

The Republican establishment is learning a few things from President Trump. Having been a business man and accomplishing much has not been easy and Trump has learned to fight and hold his ground. Apparently this has rubbed off on some of the Republican establishment. For example, during the recent Kavanagh confirmation debacle, historically the Republicans would have cut and run when the charges and accusations got so cruel, such as gang banging and all the wild sexual allegations. Typically they would tuck their tails and go under cover - but not Trump. He held his ground and fought back. The Republicans fought these wild charges that appear to be embarrassing, and didn’t back up. Trump even spoke out at a rally about the charges that were not backed up with evidence.

Funeral services honoring  the life of Hattie Mae Brown, 88,  were held October 11 at Old Pisgah  Baptist Church in Marthaville,  with Reverend Dean Johnson officiating.  Burial followed at Spring  Ridge Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.  Hattie was born July 6, 1930 in  Pleasant Hill, to Gilbert and Annie  Jacobs Stutts and entered into rest  on October 8, 2018, in Shreveport.  Preceding Hattie in death  were her parents; husband, Hugh  Harvey Brown, Sr.; son, Cecil Ray  Brown; grandsons, Jimmy Simms, Randall Permenter, Jr.; great grandchildren,  R.J. and Kelsi Wates; special friend, Kelly Eason; sisters, Dessie  Savell, Lessie Kirkland; and brothers, Chester, Earl and Larry Stutts.  Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Hugh Harvey  Brown, Jr. and wife, Diane, of Belmont, Mary Anne Collins and husband,  Herbert, of Pleasant Hill, Robert P.

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for Olivia Richard Tatum, 45, who passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. After many years of bravely and strongly battling, Olivia lost her fight, passing peacefully in her sleep. Olivia most enjoyed spending time with her family, and the light of her life were her four grandchildren. Always remember when you stub your toe she is laughing her butt off. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Jerry Tatum; her father, Tommy Richard and wife, Rachel Richard; grandmother, Dorothy Nolan; daughters, Kelsey Richard and husband, Austin Goings, and Senika and husband, Justin Free; brother, Jason Richard and wife, Kristy Richard; grandchildren, Ava Goings, Joshton Free, Teyton Free, and Rayne Free; nephew Nathan Richard and wife, Karli Rogers; niece, Caitlin Richard; and many more family and friends. Those there to welcome her Home are her mother, Kathy N. Richard; brother, Jonathan W.

Tonia LaRue Matthews, native of Denham Springs, was a Living testimony of Bible second greatest commandment, “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself.” Toni was the second oldest of six children. Tonia was known by all who ever knew her as Toni and by few as Tiger, was born in Saginaw, Michigan but spent most of her childhood growing up in Zwolle. She attended Many High School, and after graduating Toni attended Louisiana Technical College - Sabine Valley Campus where she pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent nearly 30 years working as a nurse in multiple specialties, but her love was surgery (General, ENT/Maxillofacial, Orthopedic, Cardiothoracic, Trauma, Ophthalmology/Cornea Transplants). She enjoyed being a mother, spending time with her family, and helping others in need. She was truly uniquely created and a selfless servant to anyone in need. An avid lover of God, family, and people, Toni loved caring and cooking for others.

A campaign kick-off and fundraising dinner for Sabine Sheriff Ronny Richardson was held on Thursday evening, September 20 at the Many VFW Hall. Several dignitaries and area law enforcement officers were present. The crowd enjoyed a delicious pork loin dinner, door prizes and entertainment provided by the Russell Peace Band and Concordia Parish Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber.

Before the Homecoming game on October 5, Many businessman John Curtis received a great honor. The field where the Many Tigers play will now be known as the John Curtis Many Tigers Stadium. In this photo, Curtis, is seen with numerous members of his family and school board including Superintendent Dr. Sara Ebarb, Jess Curtis, Pam Curtis, Moses Curtis, Norman Booker, Randy Martin, Rod Davis, and Spencer Faust.

Boater Joe Beebee of The Woodlands, Texas, won the T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Cowboy Division tournament on Toledo Bend Lake Sunday with a two-day cumulative catch of 10 bass weighing 27 pounds, 14 ounces. For his win, Beebee netted $5,632.

Beebee spent the event fishing in Housen Bayou, focusing on a mile-long stretch of hydrilla, pepper grass and lily pads where they all mixed together.

“I fished in two feet of water or less, but there was deep water nearby – that was key,” said Beebee, who earned his first win in BFL competition. “I primarily caught them on two lures – frogs and Texas rigs.”
