Becoming Louisiana special living history event

Becoming Louisiana special living history event

This weekend is a special one at Ft. Jesup historic site. Living history and more will be featured over the two days.

No Man’s Land:

The No Mans’ Land: Becoming Louisiana Special Living History Event is set for Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22 at Fort Jesup State Historic Site. Learn what life was like in this lawless region during the early 19th century and how both the land and people would “Become Louisiana.”

The Neutral Strip region, (a.k.a. No Man’s Land) draws its name from the area’s brief stint as an official buffer zone between Spain and the United States following the Louisiana Purchase. When the United States purchased the territory from France; Spain and the U.S. were in conflict over the boundary south of Natchitoches. The region’s use as an official buffer between Louisiana and Spanish Texas lasted from 1806 until the 1819 “Adams-Onis Treaty” that established the Sabine River as the territory’s western boundary.

Zwolle museum fundraising nears completion; research finding interesting stories

Shannon Hall Is one of several researching the exciting story of the beginning years of Toledo Bend Reservoir.

Progress on the fundraising campaign, renovation of the Zwolle Depot, and research were the topics of discussion at the February 3 meeting of the Friends of Toledo Bend/Zwolle Museum organization.

The fundraising goal of $200,000 for renovation of the Historic KCS Depot in Zwolle is approximately $17,000 from being reached! Grants and large contributions from businesses, organizations, and individuals have helped to push the organization towards its goal. Members of the fundraising committee (chaired by Edith Palmer) include Bonnie Fox-Miles, Chris Loupe, Martha Henderson, Mayor Pie Martinez, Gary Moore, Judy Meyers and Linda Curtis-Sparks. They will continue to contact businesses and friends, planning to finish the campaign by March 31, in order for the Town of Zwolle to award the renovation contract. Speaking Out for Louisiana Citizens

LEGISLATURE GETTING IT TOGETHER

As the legislature is getting things together for the upcoming session of 2020 there are a few things that are certain. One is that they will be bumping heads on a lot of issues. Another thing for certain is that we all know the Governor has to be in the mix if possible. Another thing is that they all seem to express an interest in working together. It is much better to pass bills that the Governor feels he will sign. On the other hand, the Governor must be wise enough to realize that if a bill comes out with strong consent it is not a good idea for him to object.

Patchwork

Hubby-dear sent me to off to Walmart last week with a list of items he needed for the new extension. Apparently he’d forgotten them the day before when he went to Walmart!!

Arriving a little after 4 p.m., I headed to the Hardware Department—a place I am not familiar with, for sure.

I looked at my list. Paint. One gallon of interior white paint. Naturally, I was in the exterior paint aisle, so a nice young salesman showed me to the right aisle. Hubby-dear was kind enough to post a photo on my phone so it would be easy to find. The salesman found it and put it in my buggy. Fortunately, I realized I needed a gallon and not a quart….he exchanged it and I was one step closer to leaving Hardware!!
