    The town of Zwolle was recently proclaimed a Purple Heart Community by Mayor Marvin Frazier.

    The proclamation was signed on Veteran’s Day and recognizes the Purple Heart veterans in the area.

    The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration that is awarded in the name of the president to those soldiers who are wounded or killed in service to the country and stands as the oldest military medal in the nation.

    To receive the declaration of being a Purple Heart Community, the mayor must deliver an official proclamation, which is then presented to the local chapter of the mlitary order of the Purple Heart.

    The project was spearheaded by Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Post #5187.
