Last week was qualifying at the Sabine Parish Courthouse, and numerous local candidates have thrown their hat into the ring for the November 8 election.
One U.S. Senate seat is up for grabs this election, and incumbent John Kennedy will have plenty of stiff competition for the seat. Qualifying were Beryl A. Billiot, I; Gary Chambers Jr., D; Devin Graham, R; “Xan” John, other; W. Thomas La Fontaine Olson, I; Bradley McMorris, I; Vinny Mendoza, D; Luke Mixon, D; Salvador P. Rodriguez, D; Aaron C. Sigler, L; Syrita Steib, D; and Thomas Wenn, other.
Mike Johnson, the Republican incumbent of the U.S. Representative 4th Congressional District, will return to office unopposed.
Elizabeth Pickett will return as Judge of the Third Circuit Court of Appeal.
Verity Gentry will be appointed as judge of the 11th Judicial District Court.
Qualifying to run for School Board District 1 is incumbent Daron Chandler, R; Stacy Stewart Alford, R; and Joseph “Joe Pat” Sepulvado, R.
School Board District 2 will be contested between two Republicans, Cathy Beshears and incumbent Leah V. Byles.
Qualifying for School Board District 3 are Republicans Josh Jenkins and Jacquetta Tanner.
Democrat Kowonno Greene will return to his position unopposed in the School Board’s fourth district.
Incumbent Genevieve Gordon, Democrat, sees Everett Guidry, Re publican, qualify to run against her.
School Board District 6 will be contested between Republicans Donald Garcie and John Stewart.
District 7 saw Kennith Donnie Sebren and Terrell D. Snelling, both Republicans, qualify.
Donald “Hootie” Remedies saw nobody qualify against him for School Board District 8.
Benny F. Bell and Dale Skinner, both Republicans, are vying for the School Board District 9 seat.
Marvin Frazier, Democrat, will be elected as mayor of the town of Zwolle.
Mayor for the village of Noble saw Gerri Anderson and Beverly Aaron Rivers, both Republicans, qualify to run.
Daniel Thomas, Democrat, will return as chief of police for the town of Zwolle unopposed.
No candidate qualified for the office of Noble chief of police.
Qualifying as aldermen for the village of Noble were Republicans Claire Marie Lopez and Mark Rivers. Three aldermen were to be elected despite only two qualifying.
