April 29th & 30th is the date for the 29th Annual Choctaw Apache Tribe of Ebarb Powwow. Beginning on Thursday at 6:30 PM there will be a Native American Mass and Dedication of St Kateri at St Ann Ebarb . Regalia is permitted but not required and everyone is welcome. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following Mass. Saint Kateri is a Native American Saint and a beautiful life size statue was donated to St Ann’s by Marsha Woodard. Chief Thomas Rivers and the Tribal Council invite all to the two day event that will begin at 10 AM on Friday with Native American demonstrations, vendors and dancing. Saturday is the day for all Native American dancing competitions. Dancers from through out the state and the South will be competing for cash prizes. The tribe and vendors will be selling various Native foods such as Indian tacos, fry bread, smoked Turkey legs, cracklings, hot tamales, brisket and rib plates, smoked sausage and hot link poboys, etc. Vendors have Native jewelry, blankets, clothing, arrowheads, hunting supplies and other items available for sale and display.
