A declaration of a state of emergency has been signed by Director David Davis of the Sabine Parish Office of Homeland Security, and Police Jury President Mike McCormic. Their declaration is in-line with similar measures put into effect by President Donald Trump and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards.

As of press time on Monday, August 24, Hurricane Marco is quickly closing in on southeast Louisiana. At the time, Tropical Storm Laura is expected to make landfall as a category two or three hurricane in southwest Louisiana or southeast Texas on Wednesday, August 26. It has the possibility of being the first category three hurricane to hit Louisiana since Rita hit Louisiana in 2005, only weeks after Hurricane Katrina decimated New Orleans. Meteorologists have predicted winds in excess of 100 miles per hour ahead of Laura’s landfall.
