The Sabine Prevention Alliance continues to build capacity in our local communities by reaching out to church congregations.

In the SPA’s December 10 town hall meeting, a panel member suggested that that SPA partner with local congregations to provide prevention activities for youth, to develop safe places for congregation members who may be struggling, to find appropriate support and assist in referral to appropriate services and programs. Congregations are made up of multigenerational members which helps in connecting with those that are struggling with some form of addiction or afflicted by loved ones who are dealing with issues. The SPA’s first move was to develop a roster of 84 churches in the parish along with contact information. After some research, the SPA learned about Faith-Partners, an organization that trains and develops clergy, lay members and the general membership to develop ministries to help prevent and reduce addictive behaviors and to connect those suffering with addiction within a safe, non-judgmental and healing space that facilitates recovery.
