Progress on the fundraising campaign, renovation of the Zwolle Depot, and research were the topics of discussion at the February 3 meeting of the Friends of Toledo Bend/Zwolle Museum organization.
The fundraising goal of $200,000 for renovation of the Historic KCS Depot in Zwolle is approximately $17,000 from being reached! Grants and large contributions from businesses, organizations, and individuals have helped to push the organization towards its goal. Members of the fundraising committee (chaired by Edith Palmer) include Bonnie Fox-Miles, Chris Loupe, Martha Henderson, Mayor Pie Martinez, Gary Moore, Judy Meyers and Linda Curtis-Sparks. They will continue to contact businesses and friends, planning to finish the campaign by March 31, in order for the Town of Zwolle to award the renovation contract. Renovation plans and approval of the Louisiana Fire Marshall department are complete.
Research for the various areas of interpretation and storytelling progress weekly. Weldon McDaniel, a well-known historian of Sabine County, Texas, has generously donated his time to research all cemeteries moved on the Louisiana side of Toledo Bend. He previously finalized research on all Texas cemetery relocations.
