On December 11, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man and moderately injured another. The man killed was not wearing his seat belt and was operating his vehicle in the wrong lane of travel, according to the Louisiana State Police. Alcohol usage is a suspected factor.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8 p.m., which occurred Highway 171 near Zwolle. The crash involved a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Wallace I. Brumfield, 50, of Many and a 2008 Ford Taurus, driven by William B. McNeely Jr., 81, also of Many. The Pontiac was southbound on Highway 171, traveling the wrong way in the left northbound lane. This action resulted in the Pontiac colliding head on with the Ford, which was traveling northbound in the left lane.
