The Christmas Party for the Rotary Club of Many was held in the Shrine Building on December 5. Because the meeting was to honor the 50th Anniversary of the club, all charter members were invited to attend. The banquet committee, consisting of Brandy Soileau, Janice Young, and Mary Perry, did a great job of decorating the room and providing beautiful poinsettias that were later given away as door prizes. President Buddy Wood read the names of each charter member and reminisced about past fundraisers. Stories were told of selling fruit, annual pancake suppers at Many High School, rummage sales, mud rides, concession stands, fashion shows, and various other service projects.
Woods also read the list of service projects accomplished during the last year – Girls and Boys State, dictionary project for third grade students, resume writing & interview techniques workshop for parish high school seniors, Operation Christmas Child, an anti-littering program for fourth grade students, weekly meals to Taylor House, annual college scholarships to parish students, food for K-9 Officer Jaxx of the Many Police Department, choices program for eighth grade students to encourage students to stay in school, Sabine Parish Summer Reading Program, and the RYLA Youth Leadership summer camp.
