The new pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Many and St. Terence Mission on Toledo Bend Lake is settling into his role as leader of a congregation that serves 200 plus families locally. Although Father Michael Thang’wa has only been in Many for a few weeks, he feels welcomed. He succeeds former pastor, Father Thomas Elavunkal, who returned to his home of India because of health reasons. Father Mike, as he likes to be called, served as the Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph’s Parish in Shreveport since 2014 and held the same position at St. Mary of the Pines in Shreveport prior to that. Currently, he also serves as the Vicar General for his religious order, the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope, Lyke Community.
