On October 13, a fire broke out in the area of Prospect Road, Devil’s Branch, and Pilgrim Star in Florien. Within four minutes South Sabine Fire District was on the scene and aided by Central Sabine Fire District. The wind had blown from west to east, spreading the fire very quickly. Two abandoned homes were destroyed. Even though no one was hurt, the fire did force evacuations that afternoon. The firefighters were able to contain the fire with plowed lines and wetting the ground before the fire could spread to a third home. Several small hot spot fires continued throughout Tuesday night, but were under control.
