North Sabine Fishing Team qualifies for national tourney

Converse carves way to baseball finals

The Converse Wildcats have put up an amazing run through the LHSAA Baseball Playoffs in Class B and are scheduled to take on Pitkin in the finals on May 13, shortly after the Index goes to press.

As third seed in the tournament, the team has performed admirably to get to this spot and stands a chance at the state championship.

They took out second-seed Quitman 1-0 in the semi-finals, and defeated Elizabeth 5-0 in the quarterfinals.

High school baseball teams remain in title hunt

Although softball has wrapped for the year, the bats are still swinging for the LHSAA High School Baseball Playoffs and several local teams remain in the title picture.

Many is scheduled to take on Welsh at John Blank Sportsman’s Park in Welsh. Game one will take place on May 3 at 6 p.m., with the additional two games of the series scheduled for May 4. The first game will be at 12:30 p.m., and game three, if necessary, will take place at 3 p.m.

The Tigers swept the series before with Bunkie, defeating them 12-3 on April 26 and finishing the series strong with an 11-0 win on April 27.

Local softball teams fall just short of state championships

Although packed with talent, local Sabine softball teams fell slightly short of making it to the LHSAA playoff finals this year.

The Many Lady Tigers fell to Kinder 12-0 in the semi-final, which was played on April 26 at Frasch Park in Sulphur.

The Tigers fell behind early following two doubles by their opponents in the first inning. Makynli Miller’s single in the third inning was a breath of hope for the Tigers, but one that was not meant to be. Brook Jenkins and Tia Holmes also had singles on the game.

Many of our local softball teams have entered the LHSAA Softball playoffs.

The Many Lady Tigers softball team has entered the Class 2A playoffs the top seed and defeated 32nd seed DeQuincy 19-9 on April 12.

Many Lady Tigers blow out Northwood 13-1

The Many Lady Tigers advanced their winning ways after blowing out Northwood 13-1 on Monday, April 8.

Many came out strong, putting up three runs in the first inning.  Their second inning outing worked out even better for the team, as Abbie Baker, Jada Carhee, and Brook Jenkins registered RBIs. 

At the conclusion of the game, Baker, Miller, Jenkins, Alenea Davis, and Tia Holmes all had multiple hits.  Miller went three-for-three at the plate to lead the Lady Tigers.

Makynli Miller got the start for the Lady Tigers and saw Northwood score once, in the third inning.  During the game, she walked one, struck out three, and allowed only four hits.

Blackcat walk-off shuts down Holden

A walk-off lifted the Florien Blackcats over Holden 3-2 on April 5.

With the Blackcats trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, a stolen base during Clayton Rushing’s at-bat tied the game before the batter hit a single to drive in another.

Gage Remedies pitched six innings while allowing two runs on five hits and struck out five.

Tate Rutherford went two-for-three with bat in hand to lead in hitting.

Lady Tigers defeat North DeSoto 11-8

The Lady Tigers came alive late during their game against North DeSoto on March 28.

The Tigers took an early lead in the second inning when Abbie Baker drew a walk and scored a run.

North Desoto answered in the top of the second with a tying run, but the Tigers answered back during the bottom of said inning with six runs tallied. Makynli Miller, Raelynn Hundley, Baker, and Keely Dubois each had RBIs during the half-inning.

Many Tigers fall to North DeSoto

The Many Tigers put up a big struggle, but losing the lead in the sixth inning was something they simply couldn’t overcome as they were defeated by North DeSoto 5-2.

Caron Curtis doubled in the fifth inning, which scored two runs, putting the Tigers over North Desoto 2-1 before the ill-fated sixth inning.

Nick Slaydon was on the mound for the Tigers, surrendering five runs on eight hits over five and 1/3 innings. He struck out four with no walks. Caleb Leach entered out of the bullpen and pitched for one and 2/3 innings.
