Sabine Parish is home to not one, but two, World Series Champions in softball. The Ponytails and the Louisiana Belles traveled to Sumter, South Carolina shortly before school started and played the best ball of their lives.

Both teams will be honored by riding in the Many Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 9 at 3 p.m. in downtown Many. According to Parade Chairwoman Gay Corley, both teams have been named Young Achievers for 2017.

Lakeview Gators shut out by Tigers, 62-0

By Daniel Jones

Despite non-ideal field conditions and several injuries, the Many Tigers performed admirably during their away game against the Lakeview Gators on October 20, sending a message to other teams that they are top dogs in 2-A.

Many kicked off to start the game against the Gators, who fielded a total of 17 athletes to the more than 70 Tigers that take the field weekly. The Gators had extreme problems moving the ball, and quickly found themselves without a ball.

A bad punt gave the Tigers the ball at their opponent’s 36 yard line, and were quickly in the red zone. A toss to Shacori Collier went nowhere as he slipped on the wet field. At fourth and two on the nine-yard line, Collier got a first down before the ball was punched in seconds later, putting the score up 6-0 after a missed point attempt.

Tigers trounce Menard at Homecoming

By Daniel Jones, editor

The Many Tigers continued their winning ways during the Homecoming game on October 13, during which they decimated the Holy Savior Menard Eagles 42-0.

The first half was a fairly slow affair, as two experienced running backs, who make up a good bit of the Tiger offensive unit either did not play or were out briefly. AJ Carter, who has committed to play for the UCLA Bruins, remained out the entire game while Shacori Collier, sat out the first half.

Our youth represented the parish well and were able to bring home the medals.

These top competitors worked their way through the ranks by competing first at the regional level and then on to the state  level in order to gain their spot on the Louisiana State teams.

Tigers fall to North DeSoto

By Daniel Jones

The Many Tigers were dealt a heartbreaking loss against the North DeSoto Griffins on September 15 as they traveled for their first of four away games in a row. An almost unheard of four fumbles and North DeSoto’s two scores in the third quarter were easily the deciding factors in the game. Things started commonly for the Tigers, as UCLA-committed running back AJ Carter went 67 yards on the second down of the game to put the Tigers up 6-0. A two-point conversion was denied. The Griffins were forced into a punt on their first possession.
