Many Bass Club holds May tournament

Gary Moore won the Many Bass Club’s May tournament with a three-fish stringer weighing 16.53 pounds. Yep, just three fish, three hogs. Moore caught his fish swimming a jig in grassy water lay downs in the Housen area of Toledo Bend.

Best fishing lake to host best anglers this weekend for Bassmaster Elite

Toledo Bend, the top Bass Fishing Lake in the Nation as designated by Bassmaster Magazine, will host the best bass fishing pros in the world this week when the A.R.E. Bassmaster Elite Series comes to Cypress Bend Park. Over 100 pros will fish Thursday and Friday, May 12 and 13, the field is cut to 50 pros on Saturday, May 14, with the top 12 competing on Sunday, May 15. Daily launch is at 6:15 a.m. at Cypress Bend Park with weigh in daily at 3:15 p.m. Brightly colored boats and trucks began driving into Toledo Town this past weekend for pre-fishing.

Moran wins Toledo Bass Club’s April tournament

 

Wayne Moran continued his winning ways as he won the Toledo Bass Club’s April 2016 tournament with a five-fish stringer weighing a 16.93 pounds. Moran caught his fish throwing a soft plastics into shallow water lay downs on the mid lake portion of Toledo Bend.

Belmont Bears basketball recalled by local writer

News is short this week but to give you a little sample of what next week will look like, I plan to take you back in time, it will be about the Belmont Bears, they were the Class C State Champions in 1964-65. Sadly it was also their last year of their beloved Belmont School, but they did go out with a bang.

Zwolle-Ebarb VFW donates to softball team

The Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Memorial Post 5187 and Auxiliary has stepped up again and expressed their concern by making a $200 donation to the Evans High School Softball Team. The Evans area was hit hard by the recent rain and floodwaters. Kirstyn Meshell, a Zwolle High School senior softball player and the Patriotic Instructor for the Auxiliary, and Pat Getschel, Auxiliary President, made the donation on behalf of the VFW organization. Receiving the donation were Connie Comer, Evans High School softball coach and softball team players. Coach Penfield of Zwolle High School was present and the donation was presented before the softball game between Evans High School and Zwolle High School. Coach Comer expressed her gratitude to the VFW and Auxiliary.”

Girls basketball teams see playoff action

A number of girls basketball teams from the local area went deep into the LHSAA playoffs recently. In the Class B bracket, the Florien Lady BlackCats made it all the way to the finals, but lost to number four seed Holden 42-34. On the way, they defeated Stanley 62-40 and Bell City 68-30. As they were the second seed in the tournament, they received a first-found bye.
