Michael Clark Mathis

Michael Clark Mathis, 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Nov. 13, 2014. Born in Lafayette on Sept. 28, 1940, Mike was a beloved son, husband, father, Pepaw, uncle, storyteller, Boy Scout, handyman, fisherman and practical genius. Michael attended Mansfield High School, where he was a star athlete and part of the 4-man team that broke the state record in the mile relay.  He was an Eagle Scout, member of the Order of the Arrow, and a Boy Scout Leader, attending the World Jamboree with his troop. In Mansfield, he met and married the love of his life, Lynda Sue Evans, and then attended Louisiana Tech University, where his relay team set several state records that remained unbroken for decades. He was an avid camper and fisherman, and he especially enjoyed bass fishing.

Funeral Services for Melba Grace Parker, 75, of Many,  were held on Friday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at Cenchrea Nazarene Church in Florien, with Bros. Wayne Chance, Kirk Parker and Jimmy Parker officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Florien. Melba Grace Parker was born on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1939 in Sabine Parish. She passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many. She was preceded in death by husband, Jeannie Ray Parker; father, Troy Thaxton; mother, Decie Thaxton; daughter, Brenda McVicker; brothers, Vollie Thaxton and Sammy Thaxton and sisters, Ruby Rond, Lovie Rond, Martha Foote and Rebecca Hickman. Funeral services honoring the life of Marlene Dearman were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at Magnolia Baptist Church in Hunter Community. Interment followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Hunter Community. Marlene was born on Feb.  15, 1935 to her parents Melvin and Juanita Bossier. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rayford Elias Dearman and parents, Robert Melvin and Drucie Juanita Smith Bossier. Marlene is survived by her sons, Rayford L. Dearman and wife, Jennifer, of Converse, Jimmy Dearman and wife, Cissy, of Hunter; grandchildren, Lindsay Kate Carpenter and husband, Clay, of Converse, Kristin Leigh Dearman of Hunter  and Robert Dearman of Converse.
