Charles Williams Sr.

Memorial graveside services for Charles Marvin Williams, Sr., 82, of Florien will be held November 5 at the Florien Cemetery. Marvin Williams was born on Saturday, November 18, 1933 in Leesville. He passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eugene and Rena Berel Williams; sister, Ruth Williams Allums and brother Billy Ray Williams. Marvin was very patriotic and he loved seeing the American flag waving. He had strong feelings towards America, freedom and the brave military men and women who kept it free. He was an elected member of the Florien Board of Aldermen for several years, proudly helping to maintain the policies and procedures put in place for his hometown. Marvin loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifetime electrician, which included work on air conditioners, land and water drilling rigs and finally retiring from Boise Cascade.

Thomas “Tom Tom” Mizell

Thomas Wade Mizell “Tom Tom,” 41, died October 27, 2016 at Willis Knighton in Shreveport. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Dean Mizell. He is survived by his children, Ashley Mizell of Alaska and Dalton Mizell of Tennessee; two fur babies, Jazzy May and Molly May; mother, Lolette Mizell of Robeline; brother, Joey Mizell and wife, Tammy, of Many; sister, Missy Mitchell and husband, Mark, of Robeline; niece, Chelsea Mitchell; nephews, Tanner, Jesse and Jace; brother by choice, Trey Hardee and wife, Janie, and their children, Ella and Thomas; and a host of family and friends. Tom Tom was a caring, goodhearted man and a wonderful son. He lived to work on and restore cars. He loved his family and he loved life. He spent his spare time helping his friends; always there to help out no matter what time of day it was you could count on Tom Tom.

Carolyn Manasco

Memorial services honoring the life of Carolyn Manasco, 70, were held October 22 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Many with her sons, Scott Sigler and the Rev. Shelton Sigler officiating. Carolyn was born on December 2, 1945 in Natchitoches to Luther Washington Manasco and Eula Mae Powell Manasco. She passed away on Monday October 17, 2016 at her home in Florien with her family by her side. Preceding her in death were her parents, Luther Washington Manasco and Eula Mae Powell Manasco. She is survived by her sons, Don Sigler, Shelton Sigler and wife, Kim, and Scott Sigler and wife, Mariam; daughters, Debbie Lee and husband, Steve, and Misty Howard; sister, Gertie Doherty, Barbara Seals, and Nelda Robinson; brothers, Cecil Manasco and David Manasco; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Rodney Kidder

Rodney Thayer Kidder died peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, October 22, 2016 in his home on Toledo Bend. He was born and raised in Baton Rouge. Rodney was injured in 1960 and despite being in a wheel chair, he graduated from LSU and worked for the Office of the Legislative Auditor as a CPA until he retired in 1997. After retiring he moved to Toledo Bend where he maintained a camp for over 30 years. Rodney enjoyed fishing all of his life and loved the Toledo Bend area. He was active in the Catholic Church and he attended St. Joseph’s in Zwolle and attended Manresa Retreat Center in Convent for many years. Survived by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia M. Kidder; brothers, Brian Kidder and wife, Cyndy, of Slidell and David Kidder and wife, JoAnne, of Slidell; sister, Melanie Gentiles and, Alan, of Conroe, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack A. and Jean C. Kidder of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Manresa House of Retreats, P.O.

Chris Sandell

Services for Chris Sandell, 86, of Leesville were held October 29 in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville with the Rev. C.M. Kelly officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hornbeck. Mr. Sandell went to be with the Lord October 27, 2016. He was born December 25, 1929 to Alvin and Lela Sandell in Hornbeck. Mr. Sandell was of the Baptist faith, and played the fiddle. He liked basketball, puzzles and all games, but he loved Bingo. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. Mr. Sandell was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lela Sandell; two sisters and seven brothers. Those left to cherish his memory are one brother, Talmadge Sandell and three sisters, Lela Mae Evans, Una Lea Savell and Veral Hutchison.

Sarah Owers

Funeral Services for Sarah Owers, 86, of Many, were held October 25 at First Baptist Church of Many with the Reverends Jonathan Bost and Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial followed in the Jerusalem Cemetery. Sarah Alma Owers was born on Tuesday, March 25, 1930 in Hesterville, Mississippi. She passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Sabine Retirement & Rehabilitation Center in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Emma Terry Richardson, Sr. and brother, James Hall Richardson, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Owers of Many; son, Terry Owers of Greenville, South Carolina; sisters, Frances Burnham of Shreveport and Flora Trewolla of Chapin, South Carolina; brotherin- law, Robert A. Owers of Hemphill, Texas; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Superior Hospice.

Mildred Ritter

Mildred Ritter was born April 28, 1942 in Shreveport and passed away October 13, 2016 at Many Health Care in Many. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Oree Ritter; sister, Sue Peshoff and husband, Joe of Moss Bluff; great grandchild, Benny Ray Kletch and nephews, Byron and Carlton Lehr. She’s survived by sons, Forrest Dew of Many, Roger Dew of Belmont, David Dew of Utah, and Jerry Dew of Zwolle; daughter, Regina Gregrich of Many; sisters, Marcille Lehr of Zwolle and Billie Whitfield and husband, Guy Sr., of Shreveport; brothers, Mike Ritter and wife, Daphne of Haughton, Charles Ritter and wife, Sally, of Shreveport and Kenneth Ritter and wife, Alice of Terrell, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside services were held at Mt. Zion Cemetery on October 22. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Many Health Care for the care they gave her. Many thanks for all those who came by, brought food, said a prayer or sent a card.

Funeral services for James Clayton Manasco, 77, of Many were held October 21 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverends Cyle Clayton, Frank Ebarb, and Casey Manasco officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Grove cemetery. James was born on Saturday, December 24, 1938 in Fisher. He passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at University Health in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis Manasco and Ruth Warmack Manasco and brother, Roy Manasco.

Andrea Shoalmire

Funeral services honoring the life of Andrea Lee Shoalmire, 72, were held October 22 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Converse with the Reverends Jim Tennery and Jimmy Dan Lilley officiating. Interment followed at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Converse. Andrea was born on February 18, 1944 in San Francisco, California to Lyman and Goldie Welch Hutchings and passed October 20, 2016 in Shreveport. Andrea was on the Advisory Board of Clara Springs, a Summer Counselor at Clara Springs, a member of the WMU, a member of The Retired Teachers Association and an active teacher and member at Fellowship Baptist Church. Preceding Andrea in death were her parents, Lyman and Goldie Hutchings. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles E. “Sonny” Shoalmire of Converse; sons, Jeffrey Shoalmire and wife, Christy, of Mansfield, Charles E. Shoalmire, Jr.

LaVerne Martinez Longoria

LaVerne Martinez Longoria, 89, was born on May 1, 1927 in Zwolle. She passed away on October 4, 2016. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on October 10. Internment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery. She was a lifetime resident of Zwolle and a homemaker. La-Verne was happiest when cooking and cleaning. She enjoyed cooking pots of red pepper soup and chicken and dumplings for her family and friends. LaVerne was preceded in death by husband, Luther Longoria; twin daughters, Mary and Ann Longoria; parents, Wesley and Sarah Martinez; brother, James Martinez; brother-inlaw, Steve Longoria; special niece, Brenda Campbell; and sistersin-law, Lucy Cartinez and Catherine Bebee. She is survived by son, Mark A. Longoria Sr. of Benton; daughter, Lou Nita Rivers and husband, Ben Henry of Bossier City; brothers, Wesley Martinez Jr.
