Funeral services for Davy F. LaGrange, 44, of Many were held July 20 at Trinity Baptist Church with Bro. Leon Manshack and Deacon Stephen Martin officiating. Burial followed in the Trinity Cemetery. He was born on Thursday, September 20, 1973 in Farmington, New Mexico, and passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Oschner Hospital in New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilbert “Coonie” LaGrange, Eunice LaGrange, Maggie Serna, Ignacio Serna; and father- in-law, Kenneth Knippers.

Funeral services for Lynda Jane Mitchell, 63, of Many were held July 23 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Reverends Truman Leach and Tim Leach officiating. Burial followed in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery. She was born Wednesday, March 23, 1955, and passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Mitchell; daughter, Kassie Mitchell; sister, Brenda Valdez; and mother, Marie Barnhill. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Russell and husband, Jeremy, of Many and Kellie Mitchell of Many; parents, Delmer and Rita Mitchell of Many; sisters, Dickie Leach of Many and Debra Kay of Marthaville; brothers, Dewayne Mitchell of Converse, Keith Mitchell of Noble and Brett Mitchell of Many; grandchildren, Harley Fredieu of Many, McKay Small of Many and Drake Russell of Many; great grandson, Maverick Fredieu of Many; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Gloria Jane McCormic Alford

Funeral services for Gloria Jane McCormic Alford, were held July 24 at the Toledo Church of Christ. She was born in Many on May 23, 1944 to Fred and Jane McCormic. She passed away on July 21, 2018 in Many. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Alford; and brothers, Sammy and Luke “Skipper” McCormic. She is survived by her son, Kevin Alford and wife, Jackie; daughter, Trina Gentry and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Laura Hovermale, Andrew Alford and wife, Rachel, Ryan Gentry and wife, Terra, Jeremy Gentry and wife, Lauren, and Makenzie Alford; great grandchildren, Ayden Hovermale, Mayzlie Hovermale, Kendall Alford, Braylan “Lil Soldier” Alford, and Rylie “Rosebud” Gentry; brother, John McCormic and wife, Tina; nephews, Sammy McCormic, Tim McCormic, and Luke Bickham; niece, Tabitha McCormic; great nephew, Anthony Bickham; honorary friends, Glenda Rogers, Joyce Townsend, and Sherry and George Strickland; along with a host of cousins.

Thomas DeVayne Hollis Jr.

Thomas DeVayne Hollis Jr., 80, passed away July 6, 2018 at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home from complications caused by Agent Orange. Tom was born June 24, 1938, in Many to Lillian Cooper and Thomas DeVanye Hollis Sr. He was the oldest of four children: his sister, Dorothy and brothers, Bobby and Larry. He grew up in Many, and later moved to Hornbeck, where he enjoyed swimming and fishing in lakes. He excelled in sports, especially basketball and baseball. Tom served two Tours of Duty in Vietnam. He started his military career in the Navy, then the Marines and retired with 21 years of service in the Army. He served in the Army as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne and as a Medic. He was known for his bravery, honesty, hard work, and dedication as a soldier, earning numerous awards and medals including the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired from Civil Service from Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

He was born Wednesday, December 30, 1931 in Pleasanton, Texas, and passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his home in Zwolle. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lee Garcia; parents, Melecio and Maria Rodriguez Garcia; and grandson, Kyle Taylor Hall.

Dave Glen Weaver

Funeral services for Dave Glen Weaver were July 5 at Hornbeck Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Buddy Freeman officiating. Burial followed in Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. He was born on June 30, 1966, in Corvallis, Oregon and passed away on July 2, 2018, in Hornbeck at the age of 52. He grew up in Hornbeck, attended Hornbeck High School, and was a member of Hornbeck Full Gospel Church. For many years, Dave worked as a heavy equipment operator for J.D. Lites Company. He was a jack of all trades who loved to hunt and fish. Spending time with his family was the thing that Dave loved the most. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Jr. and Francis Weaver; grandparents, George Sr. and Frieda Weaver, and Glen and Sylvia Gibson; brother, Ferlin Knippers; sister, Cheryl Sigler; nephew, Davin Russ and niece, Shantell Knippers.

He was born on Monday, April 12, 1965 in Many, and passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 in Many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Lamar Barber and Delores Azlea Lewing Barber; J.W. Weldon; brother, John Gavin Barber; maternal grandfather, Lud Lewing; maternal grandmother, Gladys Lewing; and paternal grandparents, John and Maybelle Barber. She was born on Saturday, February 4, 1939 in Many, and passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Grove; parents, Rufus and Effie Brumley Savell; sisters, Margie Brown and Carolyn Barnhill; and brother, Charles Savell. She is survived by her son, Bruce Grove and wife, Tracy, of Greenwood; brothers, James L. Savell and wife, Linda, of Mineloa, Texas and Barry Savell and wife, Millie, of Natchitoches; grandchildren, Paige Tynes and husband, Jason, of Gloster, Alanna Boyd and husband, Wayne, of Stonewall and Brandon Grove of Greenwood; great grandchildren, Kenzie, Mac, Gracie, Payton, Annaleigh, Blakely, Skyler and Cooper Joe; along with a host of family and friends.

Sarah Lou Bright Maines

A remembrance and celebration service for Sarah Lou Bright Maines, 64 of Gladewater, Texas were held July 9 at White Oak Community Church located in White Oak, Texas. On June 29, 2018, we lost a loving wife and mother, faithful sister, caring friend, and devoted teacher. Sarah is survived by her two children, Matt Maines and wife, Shelli, of White Oak, Texas and Melissa Maines of Kilgore, Texas; grandchildren, Miller and Lawsyn Maines of White Oak, Texas; mother, Pearl Ethelene Bright of Natchitoches; sisters Beth Windham of Natchitoches and Rhonda Kuhlmann and husband Lee of Slidell. Sarah’s life was full of love and guided by the principles of teaching, service to others, and finding the good in all things. Sarah touched the lives of not only her family, but all those she impacted as a teacher, principal, and counselor at Overton, White Oak and Gladewater school districts throughout her 26 years in education.
