“Patton” to screen at Many Community Center

A Sabine Parish historian, a Brigadier General (hopefully), and the movie “Patton” at the Many Community Center. What better way to spend Memorial Day Weekend? The Many Cultural District is hosting a special showing of “Patton” on Saturday, May 23, 7 p.m. at the Many Community Center.

Former Agent Rose Mary Sullivan named to prestigious 4-H Hall of Fame

Former Sabine Parish 4-H Agent and Sabine Parish Chair Rose Mary Sullivan (1987-2002) was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame Saturday, May 9 in a special ceremony hosted at the 4-H Museum in Mansura. She was one of 12 inductees to the Hall of Fame, which was established in in 2008 to recognize individuals who have significantly helped Louisiana 4-H Youth reach their goals. Each year since 2008, each parish is required to submit a minimum of one nomination, but no more than three nominations, for the honor.

Many water to see temporary change

The City of Many Water System monitors the disinfectant residual in the distribution system on a daily basis. This measurement tells us whether we are effectively disinfecting the water supply. The disinfectant residual is the amount of chlorine or chloramines in the distribution system.

National Day of Prayer held in Many

On May 7, the National Day of Prayer was celebrated and was led by Cyle Clayton of the Sabine Ministerial Alliance. Members and preachers of many different churches throughout Sabine Parish were present including those from First Baptist in Many, Alford Heights, Oak Hill Baptist, Life Ministry, Asosento Alto of Florien, Memorial Baptist church in Zwolle, and many more.

National Day of Prayer celebrated

Cane River Music Festival promises tradition, music

The Cane River region has a rich tradition of live musical performance. The community was once home to numerous juke joints and dance halls, where farmworkers could enjoy an evening of live Creole music, blues, jazz or early rock and roll. In honor of this tradition Cane River Creole National Historical Park will be hosting the sixth Annual Cane River Music Festival at Oakland Plantation on May 9. This event is free to the public.

Robinson swears into Army National Guard

PV1 Blake Robinson of Negreet was recently sworn into the Army National Guard on April 15. Robinson will serve a term of six years as a medical health care specialist. Following the conclusion of his school year, he will attend basic training this summer at Fort Jackson, S.C. The son of John and Brenda Robinson is currently a Negreet High School junior and will graduate in 2016.

Project Celebration sponsor women’s health fair, April 30

On April 30, Project Celebration held a women’s health fair at their office in Many which featured 50 free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol checks. Joanna Pleasant, director of the child advocacy center, comes into contact with women all the time and realized that so many people in the parish are unaware of the services available from Project Celebration.

Many restaurant to feature local art

The Town of Many Cultural District is combining good art along with good food at a restaurant in the heart of the Cultural District. The Balcony Grill, located on San Antonio Avenue across from the Many Community Center, now features paintings and photographs by area artists on the walls of the restaurant opened recently by Gregg Eason. The first artworks were hung on April 30. More paintings and photographs will be hung soon.
